Well, the missus and I have just returned from a great week at Crowsnest, Filey. We just love our Diablo 900 (Not the Diablo 900 XP) Could anyone please tell me the correct lie out of the guy ropes as the instructions are not that clear. We pitched the inner first and made sure that the ground sheet was flat and taught, as per instructions, and checked that all of the zips worked ok. However, once the outer was in place and pegged out the bedroom zips were difficult to operate. I had the bedroom guy ropes in-line with the poles, should these guy ropes be placed towards the back.
We had a 900 before we replaced it with an XP and must admit we faced similar problems to you when pitching it and I dont think we had the guys out the same way twice!!
We found eventually that it took some tweaking to get it right once you have the fly sheet on and it is tied to the inner and the guys are out as this seems to change the shape of the poles slightly thus leading to the problems you are experiencing.
Even now with the XP we peg otu the guys and then adjust the poles to ge the bedroom zips right. I am sure this technique will work as well on the normal 900 as it does on the XP.
I would aim to get the guys pulling toward the back of the pods rather than in line with the poles as this seems to create less distortion but you wont be able to do this with the main poles.
Hope this helps
------------- We only go camping to see what we have forgotten and what we need to get for next time. If only we could remember where we put the list..................
Our pharoah six is the same. I never over tighten the guys, as this pulls the sides out. If the guy lines are tensioned enough to take up the slack, then when the wind blows, this will stop the tent mooving. It,s not like old design tents, where the shape was made by the guy lines. The other solution if you are with the tent, is to slightly slacken the guys on the down wind side of the tent to ease the strain.
------------- Canvas tent, paraffin light, petrol stove. Heaven
I'd rather be kayaking.
Spent up, not pent up, just had my new tent up.
Thanks for your advice, will try various angles with the guys, as you suggest. I have contacted Vango to see if they have any ideas, I won't hold my breath though.
Hi,
we've got the Diablo 600 as far as I'm aware guys should always be put in line with the poles so the forces are pulling the poles onto the ground. Have you checked that fly sheet is tied on exactly in line with the poles as this might distort the shape a bit.
We have had the 900xp for a couple of years after having the 900 for a while. The other spanner to throw into the works is that I often shift pegs during a stay if the wind changes direction. Anyway - the problem with the 900 (which was solved on the xp) is that the bedrooms can collapse in gales even when guyed out properly - it's hard to explain but if you guy the bedrooms out away from the bedroom pod, the pod can still collapse towards the tent whilst the guys remain in place. I've always found it best to peg the bedrooms out away from the pods, and the other guys in places that create tension across the top of the tent - if you get what I mean?!
------------- Hotels Suck. Villas are great but I can't take my Cadac on the plane....
Although i agree with ""MOJO 19 and ahhh..fresh..air!"" that the lines should be in line with the polesi do move them when or if the wind changes to o
aford best stability the only way to keep the pod zips free is not to overstretch and pull to tight the inner when setting upand purposely leave slack that will be taken up when tying on and pegging out.
works for me and i dont have any problems any more
