Hi, I really love camping and just got my husband into it last year. Really want to go again this year but will be about 6 months pregnant by the time Easter comes round and we can reallly consider going. Just wondered if anybody has been camping at this stage (or further) or whether I'm mad to consider it!! Plus if any body has been camping in the 2nd trimester, any tips?
Would be grateful for any advice, thanks.
My daughter was born in september a few years ago and we camped all summer - it was amusing watching me get of the air bed and I was let off some duties but most of the time it was business as usual!! Go for it!
Hi, I went camping around 6 months pregnant a few years ago and it was fine - business as usual as Bertie said.
Went at 33 weeks last summer. That was fine too but found it far more tiring, I don't think I'd go that late again (not that I'm having anymore!!).
I think I slept better when camping as well, the airbed goes around your bump and supports it nicely and all the fresh air always makes me tired. The only real problem is the 6 trips an hour to the toilet - I can't remember if you'll be at that stage yet.
Maybe go somewhere close and see how you find it so you could always go home again, but I think you'll be fine.
I camped in an old fashioned ridge tent when i was 30 weeks pregnant with our daughter whos now in her 20s, the main bit of advice i would give is to take a good suportive chair and some cushions, its no fun suffering with backache when you get bigger and heavier and lack of supportive seating can make it so much worse.
If you have space for it an inside loo would be a good idea too, the weight of the baby pressing down onto yr bladder can mean several trips per night across the field as due date draws near!
For those who will be camping in hot weather in the latter stages, i would advise taking some kind of fan, you can get 12v ones or mains to help you get a better nights sleep and your homones cause you to feel hot and bothered more easily, as well as being handy for a cooler in the day. Finally dont forget to take your midwifes card with you incase you need to get something checked out with a local Gp during your stay.

Thank you everybody! You've given me the answers I was hoping for and I'm now going to plan our camping trip. My mum went camping when she was 8 weeks preganant with me and I love camping, so maybe our baby will catch the camping bug too
Thanks once again for your help
hi I went camping last year with only 8 weeks left to go and had a fab time. the only thing i would say is to take your notes and make sure you have a comfy bed. Other than that have fun
We went when my wife was pregnant roughly 6months probably more.
From my view I'd say a shewee(she's like one anyway pregnant or not!).
A seperate sleeping bag for hot cold flushes.
Comfy chair.
It was our second baby so she knew what to expect and didnt do half the moaning and groaning compared to the first.

Never did it, wasn't into camping way back then..lol..I'd say why not, yes the comfy bed and chair advice is great and also going close to home as someone else said. If I remember 6 months is the time when usually all the sicky yucky feelings have gone and it's the time before all the "I'm so huge" feelings start..hehe, go and have fun x
my daughter went camping when she was pregnant 39 wks a couple of years ago came back of holiday end of may baby was due june 9 she just took her maternity notes and hospital bag and aa route to the nearest hospital just in case she went in to labour
Go for it, enjoy it and then continue camping with your baby - I camped in both my pregnancies and we now camp with our two beautiful daughters who love it as much as we do.
You'll have a ball.
Everybody has been really encouraging and given some fab advice. Thank you.
Just being cautious with it being our first. Have now roped my sister and her husband into going so the plans are coming together. I can't wait. Almost feel like climbing into the loft just to smell the sleeping bags and unzip the tent a few times (what a sound!!)
Thanks again and happy planning to everyone x
I was 6 month pg when i went, and all i would say was a nice comfy airbed and a pitch near the loo, since I was back and fore quite a few times in the night!

I was browsing through the topics of the forum and found this one. Even though it is quite old, I have my 3 cents to input.
So, me and my wife had our second baby last spring (the first kid is already 3 years old). We are outdoor freaks, I must say. All our free time we spend NOT at home. Even in winter. So we went camping 3 months after our baby came. And it was terrific.
Believe me, there is no need to be scared. If you let everything go natural, it will.
Preparation must be taken care of well, of course. We have created a thorough checklist of things we will need. There is no supermarket nearby when you are in the woods, so you have to plan well.
The are several essential pieces of gear you need to take when camping with baby.
A tent. Ours is Sundome 4-person tent. It is big enough to fit all four of us. We store many things in the car, so we keep only essentials in the tent.
We use a no-name inflatable bed which fits perfectly in the tent.
For summer we have three sleeping bags. We use a Coleman Trinidad Warm-Weather sleeping bag. We have three of them. You can join them together - it is extremely convenient when you sleep with kids. You don't want to be separated, so you end up under the huge blanket all together.
Anyways, go ahead and camp with your kids no matter the age. It is super fun and beneficial for all the family.
Yes and everything is as normal, apart from the heart burn (after a bbq, I seem to remember) and needing the loo more.
Then we took the baby camping, early spring when he was just a few months old, with no electric hook hook up. Had his bottles steriziling in water and Milton. It was freezing and he had so many clothes on, his little arms stuck out, at right angles! He slept like a log, we had to wake him up 😆
