well after deciding to try camping last august with a cheap tent and unfortunately very crap weather we realised we liked camping but needed better equipment for this year.........................found this site excellent for info of whats good and whats not so now got a kampa filey 6 and had a roof box fitted today so really excited for camping in may school hols!!!
just need new air bed and sleeping bag now!!!!
quite expensive to start out but excited to get going properly this year :-)
(even excelled myself with all my camping lists and tips from this site, love lists normally but now i've got loads.............lol)
I camped as a kid but only got back to it 5 years ago. I've added to the collection every year....it takes a long time to gather up and the most important thing to my mind is getting the sleeping right.
I've bought airbeds every single year for the past 5 years, and only this year did I spend more money on a double height airbed and I hope this one lasts - it's certainly more comfy than the previous ones.
I do wish I'd found this site a long time ago, I've got the greatest insight into what and what doesn't work. I'm sure you'll have a great time with all your new gear this summer.
im sure i'll keep adding to my collection too, think im going to buy a coleman comfort double airbed
keeley im always cold anyway so not sure im brave enough or easter yet, maybe next year as its a bit later in the year and need to finish toilet training my 2 year old first (she cant get the hang of the number 2's!!!!!!)
this site is great ive made loads of notes of great tips and ideas for things.......hoping my glass is less muddy in the next few weeks to try out my tent as haven't put it up yet.
anyone got any tips to loading/unloading a roof box we've got a zafira and neither of us are very tall!!!!!!
We bought one of those little folding steps for the very same reason - and for me to reach the poles to clip on the tent linings
Think it was about £3 in £stretcher - but have seen them as much as £10 as those JML ones.
have a great time and this site is great for advice on all things camping somebody will have the answer for you to any of your questions, what wonderful people.

i have the same problem with the berlingo roof box - also can't reach the screws inside it on the side with the hinges
Thought about attaching it to the roof bars, then lifting the whole lot up in one go and fitting it to the roof

I let the tyres down on the Vectra, then I can reach....LOL
We use a very large step ladder at home when loading up and that little step when we get there - I still have to let OH get stuff out as I can't reach the back.
