Hi all! I had a phone call from the campsite I had booked with over Easter, saying that the site is totally water- logged, therefore the booking will have to be cancelled :(
We have been really looking forward to this weekend, although quite understand as I've seen the local weather reports, and the 5 day forecast. Also our friends have said today they probably wont be going now, because of the weather reports.
Anyway, I was feeling pretty miserable about the whole thing, and decided it maybe best to camp closeish, just incase. After a little search I have just found another campsite called Britchcombe Farm, and have booked there for the weekend instead!! Yipee, was dreading telling the kids after school today that it had all been cancelled... Plus I want to try out my new tent. Best get the ponchos out then
Is that the one near The White Horse Hill - Uffington?
I have been there if it is. A nice spot, not a lot for the kids though (mine are grown up) There's some lovely walking upto an around the White Horse itself. There's a little shop and a nice Pub in the Village.
They allow fires, but you must buy the logs etc from them. The chap comes around in a Land Rover. All very helpful and friendly.
We used the field right opposite the Farm. Try and pitch away from the road if you can - it's not too busy but the vehicles do tend to whizz by. So take care when going to the Showers at the Farm.
Hiya, yes its the one by the White Horse Hill. I've never been, but heard the views are lovely, and as its not too far away, we can always come home if the tent has turn double as a boat :) We are taking our goldie with us, and hoping to find a pub nearby that wont object to a very well behaved dog sitting at our feet for a hour or so. Also te site is near Bourton-on-Water, which I've always wanted to go to.
I am concerned about the weather, but as the UK doesn't come with a roof, I guess you just have to try and make the best of it. We cant afford expensive holidays to hot countries, so will be going on lots of trips away camping instead
There seems to be quite a few sites having to postpone opening this year. I hope you all get a good alternative if that happens. I've already had to write-off a couple because of 'snow damage'!
Amazing family weekend with old steam engines, classic car displays, market stalls, and full catering and bar. And camping on site - Save £25 by booking in advance.
