My Oh needs a new car, at the moment we use my car for camping (Vauxhall Meriva with roofbox).
My oh has a 'normal saloon' - Alfa Romeo and thats the 'type' of car he likes.
He has decided he will get an estate so it is good for camping - can't tell you how suprised and happy it has made me. It won't be new (only to us) and it is now a straight choice between a Mazda 6 Estate and a Ford Mondeo Estate.
Has anyone had/got either that they can share their experiences of please?
TIA

Ford will probably be cheaper to service but the Mazda is a much nicer car IMO. If looking at the Mazda though do check where your nearest main dealer service point is in relation to where you live / he works for those occasions when it needs a part or something done that a local garage can't do for whatever reason. Personally I'd go for the Mazda, but then I never did like Fords" (Fix Or Repair Daily!")
Hi.. i've bought mondeo's as my works vehicles since 1994 and have literally driven millions of miles in them.. never had a problem with any of them and would rate them highly. they've got better with each incarnation and the current mondeo is a very nice car. make sure that the one that you buy has the integrated roof rails as not many of the new estates do (they're now an option, whereas they used to be standard) imo they look nicer with them also!!
got two at the moment a 2.5 petrol which is quick but thirsty & a 2.2 diesel which is not as quick (fast enough though) but does 45mpg on average regardless of how it's driven.
did look at the mazda6 but didn't buy.. it's all personal choice though - I think brand loyallty swayed it for me.
He likes the look of both of them.We thought that maybe the Ford would be cheaper to run/fix - with his alfa it has been mega bucks to repair along the way. I think I err towards the Mazda, I will also have to drive it sometimes but he gets to choose as it will be his day to day car.
So really , the Mazdas are more reliable but the fords cheaper to fix if they go wrong , or have I got that wrong?
Still deciding.

The 2 cars are partially related, as Ford effectively owns Mazda and their cars are developed together (Mazda 2 and Ford Fiesta; Mazda 3 and Ford Focus; etc).
As a result the current version of both cars would be a very good choice in my opinion. I would suggest trying both, and buy based on finding the spec/ colour/price that you like.
One factor to separate them is that there are many more Mondeos around than Mazda 6s, so a Mazda will be more individual, but you will have a much greater choice of Mondoes on the used market.

No... but I would definately give a mondeo the thumbs up - also if buying 2nd hand the mondeo seems to be the cheaper car to buy.
I would say, if going for the mondeo to get the best specced car that you can afford, all the little toys do make a difference and to be fair the price difference in a used 'titanium x' or an 'edge' isn't that great. they also hide the mileage well (we had one do 420,000 miles on the same engine, clutch & gearbox!!)so try and go for f.s.h and preferably buy from a main dealer.
Theres no difference between the cars. They share the same engineering, its not possible to say which is better, it is down to the individual car. Its all down to service history, mileage & the type of warranty offered.
I dont like fords we have had a few and they have never been good, in our experience everything tends to go at once! I like vauxhalls myself, but out of your two choices I would go for the mazda xx
He, I think is swaying towards the Mazda out of the 2 of them. He is now also adding Volvo Xc's into the mix together with Mazda 5's.
Whoever said that it was the females who kept changing their minds.
I know what will happen is we will do the research, he will make up his mind - then we will go to the garage and he will pick something (entirely different from previous choices) purely on looks on the day.....
That is what happened when he got the Alfa , he went 'decided' on a entirly different car.
I must say - the Mazda 6 wins it for me on looks and it has the all important big boot.
Cheers
