i'm not entirely sure, but i think that my poly hotel (maryland xl)  probs needs one of the biggest pitches!!! footprint , including guys, is 12m X 10 (not including the extension!!!)

i have had some sites say that i would have to have 2 pitches, others dont care..

because there are so many of us, i book per pitch camps and not per person. i reckon they are 50/50

i also take a utility tent and a pup tent (or two!) and a dog! and 4 kids and 1 toddler and a mini bus and a car!!!!!

fancy camping next to me???!!  pmsl!!

I have a Vango Killington 600, when I purchased it I never thought about the size of pitch and if all campsites would accomadate me. Have a look at the link I found it a great help http://www.ukcampsite.co.uk/chatter/display_topic_threads.asp?ForumID=4&TopicID=27296&PagePosition=1&ThreadPage=1&ReturnPage=Search&search=&searchIn=

Sounds like it would be quite reasonable for a site to charge you for two sites if you are putting up a humungoes tent and two or three smaller ones and two vehicles - after all three or four tents and two vehicles is more than two families would normally take.

nah , i reckon there are a lot of families that take 2 tents (one utility and one main) and 1 vehicle...therefore we dont take more then 2 families!!!

my family is twice the size of 'most' families! lol

and then you have the argument that some people prefer the 'per person' campsites cos there are only two of them , with their large tent and utility tent.

i dont have a problem with it.. i just book at sites that suit OUR set up. when you have a large family, you soon learn to shop around!!!

I like the pricing system Midbrooks uses

this year it's £14 for the pitch and £1 per person per night, On our pitch (middle pick on my profile) we had diablo 600, day tent and car, there is space behind the porch of tent too. I think that that it quite fair. For us £18 per night no elec

The ukcampsite meet (Chy Carne) is priced per week per pitch, all kids inc and 2 adults and dogs, only extra for extra adults. £20 per night with elec

If it's a reasonable price for the 4 of us all in, inc all the extras for day tent etc, then fine by me.

As said I have paid extra before for a large pitch but was shown to an ordinarry sized pitch (Unity farm) told them it wouldn't fit and they showed us a long pitch but our tent just fitted width ways (all pitches were same width so not sure why I paid for extra so the next year I requested the same pitch without paying the extra.) Naughty I know

As Tina said you have to be selective as to which sites you pick, the ones without regimented pitches where you can go where you want are idea, use the site search facility at the top of the page or use the campsite forum for a bit of help too. I have not had any problems with a big one

Just been to Pantglas Farm in Tavernspite nr Narbeth nr Tenby and they fitted in plenty of big uns this Bank Hol weekend. http://www.ukcampsite.co.uk/sites/results3.asp?search=pantglas&by=sitename

No electric and furthest away from main facilities, short walk to lower block of loos and showers, fab views and quiet even on BH.

Cost was £20 per night, which isn't cheap but there's a bar, excellent park and not too far from anywhere

Hi,

We have an Outwell Vermont XL (4.8 x 7m). Just back from Brocklehead Farm near Darwen. Their pitches are huge! We had room to park a car on both sides of the tent and in front and still plenty of space.

(Will post a review soon)

As others have said, ask when you ring up to book.

Forgot to say Pantglas has tent islands in 2 of the fields (tent island 1 is nearest to the lower shower block and island 2 is short distance further) and a seperate camping field which is where we were at the far end, we could have fitted 2 or 3 diablos on the pitch. loads of room in front, families were playing rounders here and only the dog exersize area in front so not over looked.
