So, I have a double burner stove with resealable camping gaz cannisters. Where do i keep it when we close up the tent for the night?
Last time I had a suitcase stove which slept outside under the tarp. This time, the tarp isn't coming, and the new stove doesn't have a case....I really don't want to keep disconnecting the cannisters,surely the self seal will not benefit from being unscrewed every night? The only thing I can think of is to pop it in a plastic bag outside away from the tent..?
I love cooking on gas but hate having to mess about with cannisters, I get really nervous
When you consider how many are in use around the world, & how long the designs have been perfected, they really are quite safe. It's just good practise to follow a few simple precautions, you don't have to get all OCD about it.
I would say, for you moonmummy, leave it outside if you can. If you're worried about it getting wet/damp (which really shouldn't matter, but I can totally understand with a new toy, & it's worth looking after) then put it in a bag, or cover it with one.
Another thing I do is keep gas cylinders out of direct sunlight for long periods, or really hot areas. They can take it, but it's just another case of good practise.
Like I've said before, don't just read the instructions, make sure you FULLY UNDERSTAND them, then you can't go wrong.

Seconding nutgone, make sure you keep your spare cylinders (and ones you're not currently using, e.g. just using in heaters in the evening) outside and in a north-facing bit, should you be fortunate enough to get sunshine on your camping trip!
Well as per our incident it was actually the lamp which was at fault (& it was a very popular brand), so I would urge anyone to check new lamps, heaters etc rigorously before leaving them on for any length of time.
OH corrected my story to say that its probably only the fact that he always put the gas lamp with the cylinder outside the tent at bedtime which prevented things being much worse for us as the cylinder continued to leak gas even when lamp was switched off. Anyway like I say we are now a gas free tent but we do use the replacement gas lamp outside at night & we check it at every use..
