I'm totally obsessed too.
Everybody at home and work laughs at me and think I'm crazy.I admit I am.
I can't resist.
I've managed to sell a couple of tents so the 13 I have went down to 11, much to my family's relief, but then what do I do? I go and buy another 2 to replace them.
I now have:
Outwell pop up.
Kyham Sherpa 4
Inflatable tent.
Australian quick erect small frame tent.
Outwell Kansas 3
Raclet 4 frame tent
Cabanon Elzas
Tigris 400
Hi Gear Zenobia 6
Outwell Carolina 3
Vango Albany 4
Aztec Galeria 4
I think I may have missed a couple out to be honest!
Now, I really want the Pyramid tent having seen it.
I got rid of an Outwell Oregan 5 and the Icarus 500 and also an Aztec Hawk 3
sad or what?
All my tents are like babies. I love them.
I could only admit this on this Forum as we are all as daft as each other
I think i joined this very exclusive club of OCD a few years ago and it takes over your life .We were camping with friends at the week end and found a camping shop not far away and of course had to go in when we told them about it we had to go again and both times bought some thing ( we did need it though ) So that day the dogs had a later walk than planned
Its not tents i look at its THINGS that i HAVE to have
Cor your signature ain't half true Mantrachant! There does seem to be a pyramid shaped hole in that list though...
I've been obsessed for the last couple of years and really thought I had my kit pretty much perfect but I've gone completely bonkers this year! I've also converted my OH to the cause which makes it doubly expensive - we just egg each other on!
We started the season by buying a Cobb. Then we bought a bigger tent and a Landrover Since then I just can't seem to stop buying things, certainly NOT essentials! If I list everything I'd be here for ages but I'm certainly worse with certain things.
I've got a lot of different lights/torches/lanterns - Maglites of all sizes/colours, wind-up torches, hurricane lanterns, solar fairy lights, UFOs, LED lanterns, 2 x UCO candle lanterns and a Coleman Northstar (early b'day pressie) and I've probably missed something! So could someone tell me why the hell I bought one of these last night??! It was only £2.25 in ASDA but I really have no use for it.
I also have a particular problem with chairs. We've got 2 x little ones with no arms, 2 x medium ones with arms, 2 x massive padded reclining folding chairs (we call'em the corpse chairs - they look like bodies in bags), 2 x fishing stools, a double folding chair and a moon chair. There's only two of us and the dog!
We're going away next week so I'm doing a carboot on Sunday to shift some gear (lots of chairs) and fund the Icey Tek I'm lusting after...
Oooh, I want more chairs, I've only bought the one & no one I know will trust me to borrow one (dunno what they're expecting me to do with it?). I bought the basic one from GoOutdoors, canvas thing with cup-holder in the handle (think it's a nevada), but I've seen the same ones whilst out today, 2 for £9.99! Which is what I paid for one! Typical.
It's probably a good thing you're not closer to me, or I would buy all your surplus chairs from you!
& don't even get me started on lights! I've got plenty but still ended up buying a small wind-up lantern today, & ordering a UFO from ebay, which is entirely the fault of this site, they rave about them so much I just had to have one!
At this rate I'm going to spend my entire French holiday budget on gear & take my holiday in my sisters garden!
How can I convince my OH that I need the Vango Diablo 400 for £150 at JR Leisure when I already have 4 tents?
Do I need to convince him?
Do I need to even tell him?
I think camping can make you devious!

Me too! In fact, most of my camping stuff has come from other shops. The pans, chopping boards, utensils, cutlery, washing up stuff etc etc is cheaper by far! You'd have to go some to beat that stainless steel pan set from Ikea (why are camping pans so expensive???!)
& the 99p tesco value chopping boards, or the £1.99 pound stretcher wooden chopping boards! (both small size, perfect for camping).
I go in these places just to look & see if there's anything suitable for camping.

My dad used to buy motorbikes without consulting my mum. I think you have a certain amount of "diplomatic immunity" when you have an obsession.
Just get it, & if OH realises you just say something like "oh, you must remember, you must be losing it in your old age love"
Kittenshipman you are a woman after my own heart!
I daren't list my 'must haves', OH had to build me another shed to house them all.
It really is getting ridiculous.
Ps I think I live very close to you....
I've got around 40 camping stoves using various fuels...Petrol...Calor...cylinder gas...paraffin...AspenT4....Panel Wipe...Not obsessed, just mildly interested.

That's nowhere near the complete list, mine's scary! I've been sorting things for the carboot on Sunday (Oldcotes if anyone wants my stuff!) and I found another 3 chairs I can seat 14 people altogether! Oh well, more to sell to fund my Icey Tek, especially since I jumped the gun a bit - it's just arrived, hehehe

Whereabouts are you? Making me think you know who I am! Paranoid or what? Is your garden big enough to pitch my pyramid? Just so you can see one for real, no underhanded motives, honest. I'm really not encouraging more tent buying or looking for somewhere to dry my tent
Safeway56 - somehow I think your collection has a lot more merit than a load of folding chairs! Any pics? Not that I need a new obsession
I think I am on the verge of developing OCD. We only have two tents but if money was no object I would definitely own more.Actually if money was no object would I even be camping???!! The answer to that is probably yes. We love it.
I love looking at tents on display in shops, even though we don't need any. I keep seeing others that I like and all that camping equipment just waiting to be bought! It would make our camping trips more interesting if we had a few more tents, as we could just do a lucky dip and see which tent we end up with at the campsite A new fun element to camping
