I've been camping in October on many occasions, but always spent the evening in the pub rather than huddled in the tent!

I am currently trying to convince "She who must be obeyed" that camping in the October half term will not be too bad for camping and then I will get everything dried, cleaned, reproofed and put away and that will be the end of the "Family camping" for 2010, although I fully intend to continue to go backpacking with our German Shepard and my new baby (Karrimor Ultralite) hopefully all the way through the year.

If you end up going please keep everyone up dated with photos

The last ever camp I did in venture scouts was october and we had a great time, just the three of us. We made the mistake of knocking the inch of snow off the tent though as it was serving as insulation - doh!

My advice; get good sleeping bags / extra blankets, use the smallest tent you can get away with, plan plenty to do and don't forget about insulation under you - you might be surprised at how much you can lose that way. Canvas tents are imho far better in the colder months; they suffer less from condensation and seem to keep more warm inside.
