The problem with airbeds for babies is that the baby MAY either wriggle off and get stuck down the side (smothering risk) or that the airbed may deflate overnight (or get softer as the air inside shrinls with the cold) - another smothering risk.
When ours were little, we kept them in a moses basket or travel cot. We also considered self inflating mats (although a couple of roll mats would do).
For me, the smothering risk is a bigger issue than pthalates.
he's just such a big baby and pram top is too small now, travel cot takes up alot of room in car. wanted a pop up travel cot but i cant afford one.
found a small air bed especially for little ones and i know the risk of suffercation because of it deflatin and things. this one has raised sides (which was a concern) but then it has a seperate mattrass you put inside it with a sheet to go over it. I'm so confused!!!
Louise, how much are you willing to spend? There's a Samsonite pop-up travel cot on ebay ending in about 3 hours. Looks good. Actually, there are a fair few of them. and bear in mind, it's the sort of thing you can easily sell on again and get your money back.
Have you tried your local free-ad papers for a second-hand pop up travel cot, I suggest you check their websites daily and not wait for the paper to be printed though.

We co-sleep with our youngest, although she's a bit older now so our next trip will be her first with her own airbed. I found it much easier to regulate her temperature if she was with me, and I notice any "give" in the mattress so that's never been an issue.
