20 minutes ? Using which cut of meat...stew is usually shin beef or braising steak which takes a couple of hours to cook properly. I've never thought of using tinned oxtail soup but cerainly will use it now. Thanks for the tip.
I could probably fry mince (or chicken) and then chuck in some stock, veggies and potatoes to make a kind of hotpot in 20 mins. Not quite the same though, and definitely not "mum's on holiday too" food lol... that's where the tins come in! I've copied that recipe of sunvalleysue's for the curried mince and nan bread, sounds perfect!
What brand stewing steak are you using? We've tried a couple of brands, including Marks and Sparks, Princes and John West. The M&S is miles nicer, but is also over twice the price lol

I get stewed steak from whatever supermarket is nearest, last time it was from Aldi and was very nice, paid about £1.95 a tin. The oxtail soup really did add to the flavour and thickened it up nicely too.

Not sure I'd call it a 'cheap' meal though - stew tins are at least 2/3 £ and other tins not 'cheap' either. Maybe I'm 'cheap' but I'd say thats pricey for a camping meal. Spag Bol with mince, chicken curry etc are all gonna work out cheaper - must say I've done it once and kids thought I'd brought cat food!! till it heated up and they tasted it and loved it - just wouldn't call it a cheap meal - there are lots cheaper.
Not stew, but a curry recipe, its actually a slimming world recipe, but can be done on a campsite dead easy.
BTW it sounds awful, but it is lovely.
MUSHY PEA CURRY
To feed about 4-6 use
3 tins mushy peas
2 tins of beans
an onion or two
mushrooms (optional)
curry powder
water (to the consistency you want)
Fry off off the onions and mushrooms, add the peas and beans, enough water to get it the right consistency (thick is best)
Curry powder (as much as you like)

Just bought 2 tins of stewed steak from Nettos to take with us next week, £1.49 each, will buy own brand new potatoes, peas and carrots for a combined cost of about £1 and a tin of oxtail soup was 39p in Nettos, so total cost around £4.40 for a family of 4, don't think that's too bad really. I reckon pasta bol costs us about the same, about £3 for the mince, a jar of pasta sauce and a bag of pasta. I also like to do risotto, especially if you can get that wok rice - use mince, onions, mushrooms, peas, peppers and rice just add a stock cube crumbled up.
