Quote: BTW on the subject of helpful neighbours, our last trip the guy next door sat with a beer in his hand watching me pitch the tent, straighten it up etc without even offering to help! I wouldn't have accepted but if you're going to blatantly use my pitching efforts as your afternoons entertainment the least you could do is pretend that you'd help!
To be fair Jane he may have realised that you simply did not require any help.
Also, and please don't take this the wrong way, but it's always difficult to know when to offer, particularly women on their own (for all sorts of reasons)
Or perhaps it might have been a bit like the time I recall watching a woman struggling a bit with a largish geodesic. I didn't like to offer help as I'd never pitched one before and would more than likely just get in the way! Happily another chap politely stepped in and she seemed more than happy to accept his help.
Like the majority of campers, I am by nature a very helpful person, but I am also acutely aware that sometimes people prefer to do the job themselves.
I can understand if you know that you probably have less of an idea what to do that the person with the tent but that doesn't matter, it's fun to learn new things!
I consider myself to be quite independent but that does not been I'm stubborn, lol! I wouldn't ask for help but I would never be offended at the gesture, at least it's a way to get talking to people. I always offer if I see someone struggling a bit even if all I can do is hold the mallet.
I have always admired woman who go camping on their own once we were up in Perthshire and there was a woman in her 70's on her own and pitched her small tent, now thats what I call really brave lol I'm a wimp and would only go if it was a meet where I could be sure of some help if needed.
Well done you , hope i can manage our Monty 6 this weekend at Blair Castle , but if anyone see's me struggling PLEASE feel free to lend a hand ......lol

Shame your not going away this weekend tartanthistles , but when you do go don't forget plenty pics of your new Oakland xl , you should try Blair Castle some time we really like it up there......although it is a bit over priced
Well done. I've only been one trip and have a smaller tent etc but I was so nervous and still am a bit. Got another wee trip planned for next week. I've travelled the world for years but was very wary of camping alone. I loved it. Look forward to hearing of your next trip.
