Can anyone offer any advice on how to set up my Gelert Horizon porch against our 8-man tent? We camped twice using it since we bought it in July, but we just cannot get it to sit flush with the tent and I have big gaps around the bottom of the porch.
Is there a "best practice" way of fitting it? We put the poles in first, then we tie the mallet to the straps that go over the top of the tent and throw that over the tent then we peg it all in.
Which side should I peg first? Should I be adjusting the straps that run along the floor in the front of the porch? Help!! lol
We have a Vango Tigris 800 with the Gelert extension you, (hopefully), have. We've pitched 3 times with it now and have never really got the extension to sit flush. I presumed a couple of things, first it's a Gelert extension against a Vango tent, second that it's not really supposed to sit flush but is close enough to keep any rain from coming in.
In my experience the whole bottom level of the extension is off the ground anyway, so it doesn't make a lot of difference if it's flush as long as it's keeping rain out, and boy did we get some wind and rain last year in Cornwall.
When I put it up I peg everything very loosely so there's plent of room to move the porch about, then centralise it to the tent door opening, push it as close as possible and tighten everything up. Then I pull the part that goes over the tent tighter without the tension being too high. Couldn't live without it now.

They dont fit very well against Gelert tents either.
In the Isle of Wight this summer there was a Gelert owner opposite with the same extension who said it fitted better against our Vango than his own Gelert, your post just reminded me.
Hiya could i be really cheeky we have a high gear Kalahari 8 and managed to get hold of the porch that matches it but it has no poles with it i know the porch you have is the same as i have and was wondering what size and dimensions are the poles that fit it?sorry to hyjack your post louise xx
HI we use a gelert horizon porch with a wynster curlew it seems to fit that better than the gelert tent although there is a small gap around the bottom the sides fit fairly snug i solved the problem of the gap at the bottom by buying a square ground sheet measuring the base of the porch adding 6 ins and then cutting 6ins square out at each corner then sewing the cut out together giving me a bathtub shape bought some sticky back velcro (both sides) and stuck small squares of the velcro to the ground sheet and porch (it helps when you make bedding for a living)
With practice you can get it tight. It took us 7 or 8 times but we are there now. We get our kids to hold the straps whilst we get the back legs tight and then put in the front guy rope. We then fix the straps at the back and voila.
Thanks all - most helpful! Martin63n7 - I'll have a crack setting it up in that way when we go to Sumners Ponds later this month. The kids will hopefully help out!
Louise - Dimensions of poles - wouldn't have a clue sorry. Best trying to visit Gelert's website and ask if they do replacement poles just so you can get the dimensions off them. Sorry I can't be more helpful.
Thats ok no worries, whilst in go outdoors on saturday thay told us that the porch was unavailible and everyone is after them they are like gold dust!!! whilst in wales over the weekend we visited a camping shop and in spoils crate we found a kalahari porch brand new but just no poles with it we asked how how much? £15 !!!!!!!!!oh my they sell for £100 when you can get hold of them so was very pleased indeed at our find thankyou anyway xxx louise xx
