I was bored this morning so went for a meander round GO followed by Camperlands - well what better way to while away a day!

I have finally seen my first Kampa tent in the flesh and I must admit I thought it seemed very nice quality indeed, although I did wonder whether there was enough light and ventilation to make it a pleasant space to be confined, and also I thought it looked as though it might be quite heavy for 1 person to erect. Side by side with a similar size Outwell (Minnesota 4) I thought the Kampa looked better quality but the Outwell was lighter and better ventilated.

The next tent to draw my attention was a Sunncamp Evolution 600 with a canopy. I have never set foot in 1 before for some reason, and I loved the space! It was really light and airy, although I did wonder what on earth you'd do with that part where the walls meet in a sharp V

I've never really looked in the >£200 ranges before - not in the flesh, so it was interesting to be able to see a very obvious step up in quality. Mesh doors, more windows, ventilation, stronger poles just more attention to detail.

I'm not remotely in the market for a new tent, but if I was, I would now definitely think it worthwhile saving up for a more expensive one, you do clearly get what you pay for.

Didn't you have the urge to sit down facing the "V" and pretend you were in a spaceship?....... Or was that just me???

Light and ventilation is absolutely crucial for me.  I love a tent with loads of doors, but it has to have mesh too, or else you get invaded by aliens, and I don't mean the sci-fi kind!  Much as I like insects, I don't want to camp with them in my bed!

I can't believe I didn't mention the model, considering I hunted it down online so I could get it right - doh!

It was the Frinton 4.

I recently bought the Minnis 4 from Camperlands, haven't used it yet but I put it up in the garden last weekend just to make sure it was ok. Seems to be very versatile for me on my own with two dogs and I can't wait to try it out properly.

My wee Hi Gear Gobi 4 will have to do me for now (I actually quite like it having used it 4 times now) though I think I need one or two more tents to cover all options..Thus I am prone to wandering round the tent section at G O whenever Im in there just to get the diffrent styles and set ups imbedded in my mind...

I find myself having to bite my tounge when ever Im in a tent and a family comes in discussing (among themselves) the pro's and con's of said model...I want to blurt out the merits of a good HH rating( which is about the sum total of my knowledge on tents)or how if you need a 4 man...go for a 5!!...Though I have in the past been on the receiving end of someones advice....and no Im not some poor old saddo wandering around looking for someone to talk too..........

Jelboy.

+1 ref the critters

We very nearly went for the Evo 400 but decided on the Ottawa mostly because it has mesh doors. I think the Sunncamp is possibly the better tent though.
