Thanks for the welcome Finn, I think your right, I was going to go near the end of April so should be ok I hope. I think it's amazing some people go earlier than this! I'm just getting fed up of the wintry days and trying to think ahead to cheer myself up!!

There's good advice in Finn's reply (above). I have camped in frosty weather without any heating in the tent itself. Among the keys to success are plenty of layers when you are dressed and adequately warm night attire. Regarding your bed, it is important to insulate under you as much as around you. In other words, you must ensure good insulation between your bed and the cold ground. You also need adequate insulation from the air - sleeping bags, duvets, blankets or whatever on top of you.
I have a 'mummy' style sleeping bag which is very warm in sub-zero temperatures. But this style of bag restricts movement and can get too warm so I much prefer the looser roomier 'envelope' style. I haven't invested in a (relatively expensive) three-season envelop bag - instead I use two lighter cheap bags one inside the other. The technique certainly works for me.
My point is that you can enjoy camping 'out of season' (indeed, throughout the year) without buying expensive or specialised gear and without using EHU (electrical hook-up).
Some people love winter camping; others only camp in the summer months. To each their own. The main thing is to do what suits you.
