does anybody know where we can buy a heat reflective sheet for the tent? we are going to spain and the temp last year was 35 degrees and too hot to sleep, so we would like to get a sheet or tarp to cover the tent and keep it cooler but can not find one. can anybody help please?
Did you seen these sheets in use when you were there last year? I have not encountered anything like that in the UK so might you be able to buy one when you get to Spain?
Heat reflective sheet reflects sunlight, hot air trapped underneath it at night will make you hotter. You need a perforated shade that shades sun but lets hot air rise through it here You can buy it in Spain anywhere that sells garden furniture etc.
The comment in Dutch in the link points out that the product is not as good & more expensive than the stuff you can buy in Spain, so buy local appears to be your best bet. It is the sheeting that is strung over markets in Spain & is very effective.
It would be an idea to take some poles & guylines with you & buy the sheet in Spain to make a tarp over your tent. Most Spanish sites do have plenty of trees & the trick is to get as much shade as poss. Take a compass with you you & use that to ascertain where shade will be, midday/afternoon shade is what you want.
I've been after a cover ever since I saw one in Glastonbury last year. I regret casually thinking that's a good idea rather than trying to find the manufacturer.
I've asked pretty much every camp shop since and no one had heard of this before, until today (at probably the nearest camp shop to my house) someone said that my best bet was probably on a european website or buying abroad, or possibly from a Decathlon store. I guess in the UK we don't have much need for this.
I've considered Mylar, but haven't found anything big enough (I've got a family tent). The best thing I've found so far is http://store.uktarps.co.uk/index.php?controller=category&path=57 but I really want something pretty lightweight and compact for ease of travel. Hopefully I'll find something before my trip to the south of France in July.
Please let me know if you find something and I'll do likewise.
you can buy the marathon sheets, i call them from Towsure and other camping shops. This is supposed to lower the inside temp by 3 degrees, so may not be enough for you.
I shouk say your best bet is some type of tarp that has poles you can pitch over your tent with a gap for the breeze to go through.
What type of tent do you have? This will help with recomendations.
