After a lifetime of avoiding camping as I hate being cold and having creepy crawlies in my bed, I've been converted! My first time camping came about because I had no other option. We had tickets to see U2 in Cardiff, but all the hotels were fully booked, so camping it had to be! I was dreading it, but had a ball! After that I planned going camping more often, but life got in the way and it didn't happen again until earlier this month when myself, my OH and 12 year old son spent a long weekend at Glen Nevis campsite. we had a great time and didn't want to come home! Since we've been back it's all I've thought about!
Our tent was a tiny 3 man eurohike dome tent, but yesterday we took advantage of Go outdoors 20% off deal and bought an Outwell Nevada M! I'm so excited and can't wait until our first trip away in it!
We have the basics at the moment (sleeping bags, air beds, camping chairs, gas burner) but now I'm on the hunt for more stuff for our posh new tent! I bought a regatta folding table from Argos today in the sale, and will be getting the carpet for the tent and a kitchen unit and some lights for the bedrooms on Thursday when I get paid! My OH is having a fit and thinks I'm going overboard!
Sorry for gibbering on, everyone is sick of hearing me going on about it, but I'm so excited!
Welcome to the forum and yes we are all campaholics here too.
Well done on your buys so far, only advice we can give is get out camping as much as possible before the winter months roll in, think your gibbering now wait till end of season awaiting spring, we all get the shakes lol
I too am an obsessive! Two years ago my husband was made redudant and we had to cancel our 3 med holidays we had booked and with the deposit monies we got back we kitted ourselves out for camping. I was extremely reluctant but thought I'd give it a go. At 47 I had never slept in a sleeping bag nevermind a tent!
Two years later I am addicted! We now have our second tent which is bigger and better. Also we have more gear than we need!
I totally know where you're coming from and, trust me, you can only get worse!
Thanks shirleys! The plan at the moment is just to get away whenever we can. We're just outside Glasgow, so we're within easy reach of lots of nice places.
Debhill, I got a bit claustrophobic in my sleeping bag at first, but it was so cold I had to use it!
The tent we bought is massive for the 3 of us, so hopefully we'll be happy with it for a while! In the meantime, there's loads of camping equipment out there to keep me busy!
Hi - don't worry, you're not alone! I am a born-again-camper and loving it! Just back from a week in the Lake District and already planning the next trips and adding to my wish list of accessories and equipment! My husband laughs at me when he spys me reading the forums on here... i get addicted reading all the tips and ideas! But, i have used so many of the tried & tested ideas and therefore our camping has been warm, comfy and above all saved loads of money because of my obsession!! Have fun!
Just been trying out my new camping table and it's fantastic! Can't wait to get our tent pitched, but it's too big for our garden! I'm planning to try and talk the OH into trying it at his mum's tomorrow!
Someone referred to me as a 'tent bore' recently!! I do go on about it sometimes right enough!!! My mum commented today as I was showing her photos of our most recent holiday that she always has to wade through all the photos of the tent to get to the photos of the kids!!!!
