Preparation that is well worth the time it takes (and that's not that long to be honest).

As above I subscribe to the pull out broken spring with pliers, push remaining section down pole with screwdriver then fit new spring, school of thought.

Shame I never discovered the tool when I used to have frame tents. I used to fit the new springs entirely by which was always a little bit fiddly.

Always have a supply of  springs (and the button springs as well), pegging rubbers, gaffer tape and tenacious tape in your box of spares.

Thanks for that campasarow, now I have actually seen the springs, it really does look less daunting than I first thought.

The button springs and rubbers look to be fine, but you are right, it would be worthwhile getting a few spares in the 'tool box'
