we went to norfolk last year in august and stayed at a shocking site
we managed to get our tent pitched before all hell broke loose and we were one of the few tents who didnt flood.
but we had only been on the park 3 hours when we had a flash storm, wind rain thunder lightening, it was so bad that the entire bottom half of the campsite flooded, so badly that there were children sitting on airbeds bobbing around in the pond that once was their tent.
some of the families actually booked into a local hotel and there was only my tent (khyam ontario 8) and a few outwells that didnt get flooded.
now our tent stood up really well in the unexpected conditions and we had no brekages although the poles flexed quite a lot and my children were petrified we were completely fine, however, i have booked to go to cornwall in august 2011 for 7 nights staying at a lovely park but after reading the reviews on the park on here im slightly worried now because a lot of the reviews state its a windy park and quite exposed.
is there anything other than (*whispers* delta pegs) i can do to look after my tent and ensure a no tears trip

The site is not responsible for the weather, so a call to your chosen site and your questions are,
Is it exposed, Have they any sheltered areas and can you book them. General weather conditions for time of year.
Then make your decision on the outcome.
As for other options on the tent, yes good pegs, but if it gets to much drop it, as you are better off with a collapsed tent than a destroyed one.
Tents are by nature temporary structures, and should be treated as such.

oh yeah we are fine with doing that have a people carrier and with all seats collapse the kids can sleep happily in th back.
can you tell we've done that before
i really love the site and the views and im not worried about breeze and rain, just wondered if there was a way to position the tent for best results or use my car for protection etc
although we are experienced at camping and are by no means fair weather campers i do feel a bit anxious although if my tent gets ruined i can at least convince the hubby to buy one that i want

Bum to the wind, and then watch the direction change
Met office has a Widget, for computer or phone which shows wind speed and gusts for now with wind direction updates every three hours and has 5 day forecast.
I still use the wet finger for working out which way the wind is blowing, but it's not good for wind changing direction 3 days hence.

Because we went to Cornwall over the two bank hols recently and stayed at Polmanter. I had also read lots of reviews of the campsite talking about how windy it can get and was very before going. I made sure to pick what I thought was the least exposed pitch on the site (Levant 95) and pleased to say no tent damage at all, even though it was very windy with thunder and lightning the last couple of nights, the most that bothered us was the noise of the wind coming through the trees
sandymouth bay near bude in cornwall, so not your site but i am a little bit
thankfully though it wont put me off id rather spend the whole night awake worrying than not go, and im sure in august although there could be some rain it shouldnt be too awful weather wise, but i guess we will find out when we get there

we have camped deliberately on windy slopes because that is the place we wanted to be. Our Khyam ridgidome has been amazing. At least the water ran under the tent on the chalk downs.
Amazing family weekend with old steam engines, classic car displays, market stalls, and full catering and bar. And camping on site - Save £25 by booking in advance.
