What an absolutely fab piccie! Yes I totally agree.. it is a lovely site. I am sure it will always have people returning year on year.. I have no doubt that we have had some just freaky weather. (maybe I am just a bad omen!!! :-) ). We saw a couple of tents go down a year or two ago, and I guess it always plays on your mind? Having said that, It is what I would call a "proper" campsite, no noisy club houses and no designated pitches- free and easy!
Generally speaking most of the campers there are great, lovely bunch, and yes I did speak to Mick in the morning who echoed your point exactly. However, when you hear a physical fight with things being thrown about I was not all together happy about coming out of the tent even if it was to speak to Mick!
I hope you have a lovely time down at Acton Fields in August, and remember to take loads of piccies as I will never tire of that fantastic view.
No, in terms of taking a tent down in high wind, I think a lot depends on the type of tent. We have a tunnel tent and we tend to leave the back of the tent tethered by guys and the base of the tent and walk back section by section to the back of the tent lying the whole thing down including the poles. However, a lot of that depends on the wind direction and the shape and size of the tent. When it comes to dodgy conditions get as many hands to it as possible.
I find folding it in a real pain in wind, so I tend to do a best effort and sort it when I get home.
we spent 3nights in cae du beddgelert and fri and saturday night the wind and rain was terrible it snapped 2 straps off my sig i thought the tent was a gonna its tunnel tent so not very aero dynamic but it held up well , we was gonna pack up sunday but it died down and decided to stay and was glad there was no wind just rain so had a great sleep,we was thinking camping isnt for us after 3 failed trips but after a good nights sleep im ready to give it another go this camp is so beautiful and quiet and would go back
I totally know where your coming from - we were at Norden Farm and thats usually fairly sheltered, we broke a pole putting our tent up and it took us, our 3 friends and two other helpful neighbours to get our tent up. It was a nightmare, luckily it survived and us, and although it peeeed down yesterday, we had a good day and finished it off at Studland today. The wind really did put us off though, won't be going again unless we know its going to be relatively calm
