If you feel that you really won't use them, take them back and exchange them for something else. At least that way both the retailer and you will be happy. In fact I'm not sure that they are obliged to give you a refund as they are actually "fit for purpose" and not faulty.
Keep them! As previously mentioned it was your mistake. £6.99 is not going to break the bank and you will use them in time.

Don't take them back. It's not fair on the retailer, as it was your mistake.
Do you have any local friends who camp, who would be glad of an extra can? In my neighbourhood, of you have extra, it works to share around, and then you might receive something useful when they have a surplus.
With my friends and neighbours, it's mostly a matter of spare garden produce, but I've been given brand new pillowcases which didn't match someone's decor, my lovely dinner service (thank you Hedgehugger), a computer printer from a Canadian friend who was going home after a long stay in the UK, hiking boots, car mats, a memory card reader and have passed on unwanted audio speakers, countless books, three bicycles, a pram, a lawnmower... it really works, if you just keep your eyes open for what you have that others might want. £6.99 is not a lot for all that goodwill.
