If just side rails nope you would need cross bars to fit either a box or bag, you can pick up bars to go over on ebay cheaper or if you want new halfords are your best bet. Unfortunatly as mine is Motability I had no choice but to get dealer fitted as I didnt even have side rails on mine which would have made things easier.

Right, I see. The one from roofbag in USA doesn't appear to need them though. I assume there's no traffic laws over here that I would fall foul of if I got one? I only want it for sleeping bags and blankets cos they take up so much room so not a great weight, just bulk. Fancied a roofbox for 2 years but they're so bulky to store. It wouldn't go up in the loft.

I just bought the handiholdall.
Tried it the other week when it rained as we were packing.
I also got the two holdalls, pleased I did as, after nearly an hours drive in the rain the bag had let water in, each side, I guess through the zip, the holdalls showed water signs down the front side, however everything inside seemed dry.
These bags work best when packed to capacity and have to say it took a little effort to get packed and zipped up, I put the holdalls on the roof bag on the roof fully packed and it was a bit of a task to zip up, you have to keep pulling the bag up around the holdalls but eventually I did it and the bag had it's shape, strapped down and was fine.
I was a litt,le disappointed it had let water. In although with the holdalls stuff wasnt wet and as insaid I guess it was the zips, it might be that with the strapping down the zips were facing the worst of the weather?
Overall though as long asnyou take precautions it's a good solution as it packs down ton a sleeping bag size.
We have the Handi Rack and inflatables roof bars as we don't have storage space. Used a couple of times and it seems fine although hasn't yet been used in the rain.

I've got a handiholdall too and used it for the first time this weekend..it was fab. I got a free duffel with it (handi something or other) which I didn't use mainy because it seems to be much bigger then the holdall itself.
Apparently (according to the website) two of these bags will fill the holdall, but I can't even see how one would fit...it appears to be too long.
If anyone has a pic of one, or two, of these in the holdall I'd be glad to see it.

There is a picture on there website with the 2 bags in the holdall
Had anybody tried the Caropy Roof Sack? These are ment to be waterproof
the thule 90 needs bars - but you can get bars from roofbox.com for rails or other roof fittings (they seel by car model). Also cheaper than a certain locally sponsored motoring store !
We got the bag (Ranger 90) off eBay for £100 (used twice) and the bars from above - another £100 with some free strps. This is a HUGE saving on the price from that motoring store.
Our tent will not fit into it (bewae of height of bags) however it will fite enough other stuff to ensure the tent now fits in the boot comfortably !
Hi, hav a look at A1 motor stores, they have a handirack+holdall which is huge, the holdall clips onto the mainbag & comes with a seperate matching waterproof cover which clips onto the bars,i packed all the clothes for a week for 4 people in the holdall & put chairs, canopy, windbreak, table, box of food etc in with ease. I put mine on my camp-let bars which enables me to pack it with ease, it is totally waterproof as the zips are covered with a rain-guard which velcros down over the zips, used it in rain & proved to be waterproof and at £40 i cant complain, got it to replace roof-box as I have to stand on the inside of car to reach up which is a pain! folds away easy as well
Took delivery of my handirack etc today. I got it direct from the website on here but phoned order through as couldn't get discount code to work. Fantastic service from them, got my discount, ordered it at 09.30 Monday and arrived at 08.30 Tuesday day!
Did have a look around at prices but when you add p&p on from lots of sites there's no difference.
BTW, those looking at getting one from the USA watch out for the transit charges...makes items not such a good deal!
------------- I don't need it...I'm not buying it....but I really WANT it!
We have a www.roofbox.com one and it's great - goes straight on the roof on a non-slip mat. We paid a bit extra for the absolutely guaranteed not to leak one, which will no doubt be tested next month. They did the $20 customs thing on ours too, so no import duty to pay. Duffle bags a kept packed under the bed, so only takes a few minutes to fill and go.
Catmando - if you go to Shop! at the top of the page then you should find discount code there. They were very helpful when I rang and said it wasn't working.
