12 of us are camping in August. We have already camped as a group this year and all commented that some shade / rain protection in the communal space between the tents would be really helpful.
We have looked at the Coleman Event Shelter but it's quite pricey and a bit of a monster - so now we are looking at the tarp option. So far have looked at the Vango Family Shelter and the Obelink tarps in canvas or polyester.
What does everyone think of the tarp option? Are they easy to position and set up? Are they stable if well guyed out?
Have a look at the Aldi website for the specials. We got a fab tarp/suncanopy (uv protection 30) for about 15 quid a few years back and it sounds ideal for what you need to use it for. They are easy to set up and as long as they are guyed correctly will last your whole trip without incident.

Cool campers use Delta Pegs.
The happiest people aren't the ones who have everything they are the ones who make the most of everything they have
We use a tarp with all our tents, but tend to have it attached to the tent, which makes pitching it by one person possible. If there are several of you to hold up poles and guy out, you should have a good solid shelter even if free standing. Just remember to have low and high points so that rain can runoff and not puddle.
------------- Love our set-up and need no more tents or gear, so trying to stop looking!
we asked a very similar question a few days ago after contemplating a coleman event shelter. We have now ordered a couple of quechua tarps off decathlon so we have one and the sis and bro in law have one and we can combine them in the optimum layout for shade/rain protection and we still have one to use if we fo seperately.
Quencha tarps all the way for us! love our's so versilite, yes you pay a higher price, BUT, it's all pre guyed, centre eye point for various pitching options, comes with some poles ( but use our king ones too), pegs and all folds and rolls into a neat tiny bag that we roll and take to the beach for day trips, then take it down and put it back up again as needed trip per trip, but it is very easy to use i can pitch mine alone and i am no expert but i love my quencha!!!

we had the aldi tarp a few years ago, it was brilliant.....its been replaced with the decathlon tarp which is equally brilliant. We have one and so do our friends....on a recent camp we used one as a roof and one as a side panel against the wind.
