I have been looking for a kitchen tent option as I do not want to cook in the Izmir in bad weather and with 2 toddlers I was keen to get a zipped utility tent that I could put all the food and cooking gear in out of the way.

I bought the High Gear utility tent on offer at Argos a few weeks ago but returned it as it had some poles missing and I was unimpressed with the quality.

A cabanon kitchen tent would be lovely, but I cannot afford one and think I would struggle with the space in my already overloaded car!

I have just spotted the Halfords 'walk-in base tent' on offer www.ukcampsite.co.uk/redirect.asp?redir=http://www.halfords.com/webapp/wcs/stores/servlet/product_storeId_10001_catalogId_10151_productId_745519_langId_-1_categoryId_249951

at £39.99 which looks like a good deal & I wonder if anyone else had tried this as a utility tent option - or if anyone has any other affordable suggestions?

I have kept an eye out for an outdoor revolution outhouse which I have seen recommended on here, but they go for crazy money on fleabay!

Thank you in advance.

I wasn't too worried about HH as it will only be for storage of food/coolbox/cooker etc and cooking in if windy or wet.

It's not fire retardent so probably not the best option for cooking in.

I wouldnt touch it to be honest I think it would be an accident waiting to happen. Asda were selling camping Gazebos for £29.99 (the last time I looked). Pretty half decent quality and mesh sides so you wont end up poisoning yourself and less risk at burning it down. They've been discontinued on the website, but i've seen them in the stores so you might be lucky and be able to get one. If you do decide to go down the utility tent route. I'd trawl ebay if I were you and see if you can find a canvas one to go with your beautiful tent.

I have one of the Halfords Base Tents and use it for cooking in. The two doors are what sold it to me. My kitchen is screwed to the towbar of my TT so I zip the second door between the trailer and the kitchen and the other door is the entrance. The kitchen has a substantial metal lid that acts as a splashback and keeps the tent well away from the heat.

Nice quality and BIG too!

Following my previous post, I've just been looking at some other day tents (such as the Vango event tent) and I can't see any mention of whether they are fire retardent or not.

Hi Wriggly, Argos 'Handy Tent' (can't do linkies) are 2000HH, on offer at £34.99. I bought one couple of weeks ago for cooking storage etc. Trial pitch in dining room, quite spacious. But, didn't think about fitting this plus all the other gear into an already packed to the gunwhales car. It had to stay behind If you have the space to cart it though, I'd say it's a good buy.

The upshot of my blonde moment purchase is an unused Handy Tent up for grabs £25 in Nth Yorks

Thank you evryone for your thoughts.

Ibiza - I did get the handy tent, but it had the wrong poles (4 of one type, 2 of another missing!) and it was humungus - so like you it won't fit in the car!

I have a quecha tarp (saving for a canvas one eventually!), so maybe a canopy windbreak will be the best option.  I just fancied the idea of being able to zip the stuff away at night & when we were away from the tent - but I guess a zip is not really 'security' - so no matter!

Wriggly, just checked mine, description is Pro-action not Hi Gear, so must be different tents. Good luck with your final choice.
