We will be camping on water soon and I am looking for disposable plates, cups etc. I don't really want paper as we will be eating hot food off them. Can anybody suggest an alternative and where to get them from.

What do you mean by "camping on water" if you are in a boat on sea, river or canal there are very strict rules about rubbish disposal, why not just take some plates and dip them in the water to clean them? far better for the environment, and less hassle than storing bags of plastic plates with smelly food on them...
Poundland do some polystyrene type plates and cups so suitable for hot food, when my lot were small we used to take a huge bag of these, a roll of bin liners and plastic cutlery, washing up - sorted!
Now however, they all have to take their turn, while I relax with a cuppa! ;-)
Have a great trip!
Jane.

What we did was use paper, but put them on top of usual camping plastic ones so they were rigid enough, but were still disposable. We has chilli and curry and it didn't go through the plate.
Last year we decided to use paper plates for our last meal on the Fri night, and the Sat morning so we wouldn't have to worry about getting everything really dry before stacking away for the winter. This year the plan was to use paper plates, on top of our plastic plates, and disposable cups for the hot chocolate in the evening, 'cos that's horrible to clean up.
As it was, we only used the paper plates for messy meals, and the Aldi hot choc wasn't as messy as whatever it was we had last year. We've worked hard at our recycling for many years now, and I'm not going to feel guilty about using a few paper plates.
I hate disposing of greasy water at camp, so we use kitchen paper to wipe off the grease from saucepans etc. before washing up.
And we saved a huge amount of gas because we didn't have to boil up washing up water all the time.

Sorry to all I should explain myself. When I said "Camping on Water" I forgot I had explained this but on another part of this site.I titled the original post as "Camping under canvas" This is a week spent on the Norfolk Broads in a Sailing craft with no engine, no electrics, etc. I can assure you all we are very eco aware and we dispose of any waste responsibly whenever we moor up. Last year however washing up plates was a bit of a chore as for 5 nights we eat on board using food that we took with us. That is why I was looking for alternatives that are suitable for hot food. We go with Hunters Fleet out of Ludham, Norfolk

Small world lol, we were down at Womack Water and took a walk down to Hunters yard yesterday, The rivers are very busy, and there are plenty of the Hunters fleet out and about, I agree entirely regarding the camping on a boat bit, it is very basic living indeed, and still under canvas!
We also visited Horning and went for a meal at the Pub 'near the ferry and boatyard' (best I can do without actually naming it lol) it was one of the worst meals i have had in a long time, expensive, megre sized portions, Carvery food all dried up looked like it had been there since they opened up at 11am, and the seats were badly stained and menus tatty to say the least. We would have done better spending our money in the new chip shop a few yards away up the lane, or better still at the chinese take away, one of the best i have ever been to.
Lathams at Potter Heigham sell disposable plates and foil containers ect if you run out, but i buy mine from a local to home catering supplier, much cheaper when you buy them by the bulk pack of 250, They work out at a penny each for the large polystyrene dinner plates and bowls, but we also buy some of the large chip shop shaped trays as there great for putting a jacket spud in or a bit of salad and a few sarnies, much easier to hold when your on the move than a traditional dinner plate which neads a tray undernieth it for strength.
I hope you have a lovely time, the sun is out today here in Norfolk and all the nasty rain has gone away until next week according to the forcast.

Just returned from our week "Camping under canvas on water". What a great week it was. Excellent sailing weather apart from the first Monday when it was so windy that we decided to return to the Hunter fleet yard and drive to Norwich for the day. The rest of the week was fine apart from 10 mins of heavy squally rain trying to enter Upton Dyke.
We froze food for four nights and used the plates on the yacht, washed them up after all. This didn't seem so bad this time.
Visited some great pubs for some lovely Norfolk beer. As for the pub in Horning I know exactly which one you mean and I quite agree with the comments regarding the establishment. There is a much nicer pub just up river called N** I**.
Anyway happy camping to all.

Makro have all different types of disposable cutlery, plates/bowls etc. You need a trade card to get in but I bet there's someone in your family with one or maybe your boss, I'm not sure what there prices are like in comparison to the other posts on here but they have a website
