That is nearly as antisocial as the family in Devon that put their tent facing the wall behind them rather than the middle of the field and then still surrounded it with windbreaks!
Don't get me wrong I like a bit of privacy but I'm with the 'not corralling yourself in' group and having the best of both worlds. How else can you laugh at your neighbours if you can't see them, and how can they laugh at you if they can't see you
We have recently come back from a 10 day camping trip and there was a set up of a tent with a gazebo at the entrance of the tent and all the gaps where people might look in was screened off by old curtains,i'm sure people talked about them more than if they could be seen. Not once did we see anyone who the set up belonged to

Thanks so much. I feel like I've hijacked the OP's thread by putting pictures up and distracting people with the dogs *blush*

I'm going to celebrate my divorce by getting a whippet. S2BX imposed a "2 dogs max" rule when we were first married, and I don't want to get a 3rd until he's moved out and I've moved, if I have to.
People will think I'm a poacher if they see me out with a pair of terriers and a whippet, I reckon.

Love your setup and your dogs even more Whippetlover!
I really want a set of those box / drawer things that you've got, but I haven't been able to find one where you can seperate the tiers. What car do you fit all that into? Thats a huge fridge by camping standards!
Sorry for delay in replying, I missed your post! That stacking unit comes apart into three sections of grey frame and the drawers just stay inside the sections. hope that makes sense lol! It was from Asda and was about £10 I think. It also has little wheels on the feet that you can take off if you don't want them on.
Yes, she had to go one better than me with the fridge size lol! Mind you, I'm not complaining...there were six of us for six days and we got it all in both fridges and the only thing we had to buy while we were there was some more milk. It was lovely not having to shop every couple of days :)

Had teh site not been deserted on our trip out last week, we may have been considered anti social as we had the door facing hte fence rather than the field. Partly because Richard thought that it had two doors when he laid it out, and when we discovered that it hadn't we decided to keep it that way as it was fairly windy and we decided that keeping that way would mean that the hedge would proved some shelter from the wind. We'd only gone fro a couple of nights to test the new tent and didn't bother with things like windbreaks., so sistting between the hege and the fence did provide some shelter for the short periods that it was actually nice enough to sit outside.
I've seen loads of single tents pitch facing the hedge at the back. I assumed it was for shelter and a bit of privacy. I just have to crane my neck a bit further round to look at their set up!
I am always worried about looking unsociable. We tend to use a wind break as a boundary marker for my child who has learning difficulties. Otherwise she would skip into anyones space and join them. As she gets older her behaviour is still young and she can get some funnly looks. I feel more relaxed with a little privacy, especially when I first arrive until she settles into routine.

I've always assumed that they'd pitched that way because it was bum to wind.
what a good thread to read and listen to others opinions, and what lovely pics.each to their own and campings for all sorts we take the kitchen sink!!! ian
I have set up the tent with the door opening to the hedge and with a windbreak to the side providing cover for the seating area.
This was in no means to be antisocial (we invited the single man over for chilli, children played with other children in the middle of the field, we spoke to everyone) but simply because of my dog. She can be a bl**dy nuisance when she can see people moving around and keeps barking. We are currently taking her to training to get her over this but until then we have to hide her view of the rest of the site while she is chained to the corkscrew thing.
I find it fascinating to see what other set ups people have, they have certainly changed and extended over the years.
Amazing family weekend with old steam engines, classic car displays, market stalls, and full catering and bar. And camping on site - Save £25 by booking in advance.
