wasps are the best natural non chemical way of keeping bugs and veg eating pests under control.
Burn Greek coffee! We go to Greece every few years to visit relatives, and last time we were there we noticed that this is what the taverna owners do to keep wasps away. It seemed to work, so we brought some Greek coffee back to Blighty with us, and we've tried it a couple of times over here, and yep, it does appear to do the trick. Apparently the wasps don't like the aroma.
We've never tried it with any other type of coffee, by the way. Also, we've never had to do this while camping, so I'm not sure how well the aroma of burning coffee would go down with neighbouring campers! It might drive the wasps over to them, of course...
Anyway, get a foil container (takeaway food-sized), pour the Greek coffee in, about a centimetre deep, stick a bit of paper or card in, light the paper or card, and leave it to smoulder away on a table inside your awning or near the tent entrance. It will last for a good few hours, if you put enough in.

Oh sorry about that, in future I'll let them crawl over my food and into my drinks and sting me when I have the audacity to object.
And don't give me the usual mantra of "they'll leave you alone if you leave them alone" because it's nonsense!
I'd love a world without wasps. I've not seen any in the vicinity of my garden this year (probably because I killed about 10 queens in the spring) and everything seems to be functioning happily enough without them.
I would rather not have killed them, but I couldn't open any windows upstairs because they were coming in (nest under eaves) there were loads coming and going in the garden and so they had to go. I didn't want my grandchildren being stung when the time came for the wasps to get dopey which is about now. We couldn't sit outside a couple of weeks ago. Now would have been awful.
When we camped in a friend's orchard, we inadvertently pitched right on top of a wasps' nest. We couldn't get near the tent to move it, because of all the angry wasps emerging from under our groundsheet. We had to wait till it was dark and they'd all gone to sleep.
Last August bank holiday we were plagued by them, but this year we only seen a few, my 14 year old SN daughter is petrified and will run screaming at the top of her voice if one comes near her ( she has been stung a few times, once in the corner of her eye)......... so i'm not a fan of them!!

We’ve had terrible trouble with wasps today - several of us have been stung. We’ve found making a lemonade bottle trap containing jam, strawberry daiquiri and rose wine worked a treat - they got drunk and died! Failing that, doing ‘The Wasp Dance’!
Amazing family weekend with old steam engines, classic car displays, market stalls, and full catering and bar. And camping on site - Save £25 by booking in advance.
