with great sadness i have to sell my camping gear, the tent and all that goes with it
so i am going to put it on here ( dont like ebay particularly), the only problem is that i couldnt put it up in my garden as its too big ( outwell arkansas 5) so would just photos be ok, its been used twice and was bought this year.
and how much, what price? so confused about it all and i thought some of you guys could help !
If you have pictures (even holiday shots) that show the tent they will be fine. If you have inside shots with all your stuff in, even better so people can see what sort of space they get. You could also search for images on the Internet but be careful about infringing copyright.
As for price, have a look at what other people are selling the same or similar items for on ebay and here and then work out your prices from there.
Don't discount eBay, I sold my old Vango Odessey tent on ebay earlier this year before we rediscovered camping and bought the new family tent. I hadnt used it for about 10 years and the tent was about 13 years old. I ended up getting nearly £100 for it plus postage.
If you're worried about how much you get for it just put a reserve or a starting price on it. It costs pennies to put it on although you do have to pay 10% sellers fee if it sells.
i got £82 for a vango diablo 600, despite a very warts and all description:
"as one might expect of a tent that has seen good use, it has some poles which have been 'enhanced' with gaffa tape, the detachable porch groundsheet has been similarly treated. the tent was once put away wet and there is some evidence of mildew staining (but no smell) viewable on the inside (but not from the outside) which has faded over time. we were in a bit of a hurry last time we packed the tent up, so the inside will need a brush and a mop. there are also some small tears in the fabric holding the poles, which have been gaffa taped rather than using the supplied repair kit. this does not affect the integrity of the tent whatsoever. as such, it is sold as seen.
for all that, this popular tent is perfect for even a full week of camping and still looks and feels the business. the living area is large for the size of the tent, and it has a very useful porch which we have variously used as a cooking area, wet boot deposit, and we've even pitched a two man tent in there to add an extra bedroom.
the tent, poles and groundsheet are supplied in the original bags. some pegs have been replaced by stronger nylon ones which are upgrades to the original.
starting at 99p with no reserve, bag yourself a bargain and get camping this weekend!"
I agree with all people have said above about eBay: it's a great site and you will almost certainly get the market value for your tent.
If you are at all concerned about your tent selling for less than you would like then set a reserve but recognise that the existence of a reserve can be enough to stop some people bidding.
If you are concerned about being ripped off then ensure you only sell to people with positive feedback. I've sold lots of stuff on eBay, usually for more than I would have expected. Alecstilleyedye's advice about being exceedingly honest in your description is important as it establishes you as an honest seller.
