In theory it also helps to reduce condensation, but it never worked when I had a frame tent! I think a quilted type liner might work better but would be bulky.

If you have a tent that suffers from condensation, which can also drip from the frame, it will catch the drips.

The purpose is to keep the tent cooler and provide a nice look.

It was missing from the latitude so I just rigged a couple of sheets through the frame
Can still see the poles but wasn't bothered about faffing putting clips on etc as it does the job anyway

OMG valbarley
Go and stand in the corner. Not bothered and fafing are not words I would expect from you. You're whole camping ethos, is about bothering and fafing

Valbarley, I think your sheet needs to be hanging from the frame poles to do the job of cooling.
Although it does looks nice and cosy inside.

cooling?! it's always blummin cold! TBH the latitude is more for a cold weather tent, use the nice bells in the summer

It looks nice, Val, but it'll get drenched if it rains with it touching the canvas. The roof liner isn't just for looks, it creates a bit of an insulated layer to make the tent cooler in hot weather and warmer when it's cold (and they really do work, we did a test when we went to the south of France with our frame tent; one bit 'with' and one bit 'without', the part with the liner was considerably cooler, even though the roof was PVC coated and so not breathable).
They are a faff to put up but can make the tent feel nicer, and lighter, inside.
