In reply to Sceptical Camper I call it 'new camping' because it is very different from my much earlier experiences. The fact that you can camp and there is virtually no condensation surprises me. Camping with a car is also a totally different experience. Camp sites with excellent facilities and the fact that people worry about the length of the grass also sutprises me. In fact camping today can be unbelievably comfortable. I certainly don't have a problem with this because previously even in extreme conditions I always made myself as comfortable as possible. The one thing I do look for is a reasonably natural site and although EHUs can be a blessing in winter they do limit where you can pitch and I prefer the fredom of being able to pitch anywhere on a site. My search will go on for really beautiful somewhat challenging sites where you are really aware that you are in the countryside.
The world's a beautiful place, and although there are many ways in which to see it, what better way than camping?
You're as close to Nature as you can be, it can be done on the kind of budget that's accessible to pretty much everyone. It's also sociable (for the main) - meeting folks is hardly difficult on a campsite.
Currently sat in a field that's free of anyone but me, daughter, dog and the Monty. Coffee brewed, surrounded by all manner of birds, warm and sunny (despite the weather forecast), thinking about lunch then heading off out.
I also love that we have so little with us, compared to the contents of our apartment, and yet we're happy as pigs in clover.
I'm just slumming it, tbh, until my stock portfolio regains some composure, then I'll be back on Mauritius in the time it takes your air bed to flatten out.

Struggling to get & keep your tent up sometimes in adverse weather, always needing to do something, be it get water, treck to the pot wash, walk to the loos etc..rolling up your flaps, zipping your fly screen up & down, keeping food & drink cool, keeping yourself warm...
I think it brings out the *Famous 5* in us, as everything is always an adventure! The fun starts way before you get on site, the hours spent on the Site search, checking out reviews..
The list making, the bargain hunting, the getting your kit together, the near impossible feat of getting it in the car, it can be exhausting! and that's the draw for me, I spend my days sat down, camping gets you mobile & active...makes the wine at the end of the day all the more welcome
All I can say is ditto. Sums up my feelings and why 'I came back' to quote an old ad for something quite different!
