I wouldn't bother as long as your house insurance covers items away from the home. Make sure you have enough cover though.

You have to be very careful with house insurance as a lot of them don't cover items away from home if you leave them unattended in the middle of a field! It is best to get confirmation directly from your insurer that you would be covered and to reasonable level as there is often a relatively low value cap of a couple of hundred pounds if it is covered.

Our home insurance doesn't cover it so we have separate insurance which covers all our gear and hotel accommodation in case of a disaster. You really need to weigh up the cost of replacing your kit against the cost of insurance.

Our home insurance covers for up to £6k away from home. It ots a bit more on the premium but cheaper than a stand alone policy

This is my feeling exactly and is the same for all insurances. You will be glad you took it out if something goes wrong. If nothing goes wrong, and in most cases it doesn't, then you will have thrown money down the drain.

You have to weigh up what you feel more comfortable with...having the cost of replacing camping equipment if it gets damaged or stolen or paying out a large sum to an insurance company year after year with no return.

If you really feel that you need to have some spare cash to hand in case something goes wrong then you would probably do better to put the money in a bank account or a cash ISA...at least you can get it back again if you don't need to use it.
