Hi was just after some advice. I have been camping 4 times now with my hubbie and kids who r now 7 and 4 and we have loved it, wish we could get away more to be honest. We have a 10 man tent now, got it last year and used it twice and all was great.
The problem we have now is im 7 months pregnant and due in May, will be having c-section May 16th. I want to go camping in the June half termĀ but hubbie doesnt think we should as baby will be 3 weeks old or just over, ( i think will be fine) It might be the only chance we can go this yr as hubbie will be working all summer holidays so wont be able to go :(
So was just wondering if nayone has been with a very small baby and did it go ok, i need to convince hubbie it will all be fine :)
Congratulations on the new arrival to be but i think it will be more you that you will have to think about as after having a c section you will be very saw and uncomfortable and to be honest the thought of lying on the floor of a tent after that i think you will be mad....sorry if this isnt the answer you were after but i think it would be too much for you ...Good Luck by the way xxx

Thats what my friend said she was more worried about me than the baby. I had c-sections with my other 2 and i seem to think i was fine after a few weeks with them but not sure if that is just wishfull thinking on my behalf and actually forgetting how hard it actually was :)
I think i may just leave it and see how i feel after the baby is born and if i feel ok i can book it but if not maybe go away for a weekend or something later in the yr to get my camping fix :)
I had a c section and like you i remember being fine after 2/3 weeks. Remember though that this was at home, a 10 man tent wont go up by itself and lugging everything in and out wont do you any good. If you can get someone to help you with all that and you not do any lifting i would say go for it, saying that i moved house after 2 weeks lol.
I would seriously think about it tho cos if anything goes wrong with the healing process it might not be so good.
They kept telling me "its a major operation you know, dont do too much" etc etc
To be honest, I would wait and see how you are. You may feel at the time you are up to it which is great but things may not be that straightforward. You have had sections in the past so know what to expect.
Is there any way you could get hold of a smaller tent and have a little garden camp for the sake of the two older kids? That way if you are not feeling up to it you will be in the comfort of your own home and hubby can supervise the garden camp.
Good luck when your new arrival comes along!

hiya,
I have also had a c section and as much as i felt quite fit after few weeks there is no way i would have been able to help pitch tent and help unpack,as well as look after kids/new baby.(I get sore doing the setting up just now, feel like iv had a trip to gym the next day)lol
have you looked at the pre pitched tents or yurts ect.there are some amazing campsites in uk with tents already for you to walk into?? sure kids would love it just the same.
all the best for may,and your new baby
Congrats on the baby. Can I just say, as someone who has had 3 cesareans that my first 2 were a breeze but the third was a whole different story as the op was far more complicated than expected due to previous internal scarring! Plus I dont think we appreciate how much home comforts like sofas, help to feel less sore etc, rather than sitting more upright in camping chairs, or lowering yourself onto a low airbed etc. I would seriously wait, I know you will be fed up, (I was in exactly the same situation one year, all our camping buddies went on camp and we had a 3 week old baby and my second cesarean. I felt fine and was totally fed up, but maybe I wouldnt have felt fine if I was camping.)
Good luck with it all and remember to look after mum too!
As a midwife in my previous life I have had to look after women who after going home after a c-section managed to push their bowel through their scar before giving the internal muscles time to repair. It doesn't take much pressure!!!!!Even if the wound doesn't open you can end up with a nasty abdominal hernia. If you are going to go and do nothing fine, but don't even be tempted to pull out a tent peg!!!!

I agree Issym, and I am one of those ladies with a hernia to prove it, I went back to work on a nursing agency doing nights after a C-section when my youngest daughter was five weeks old, I was assured by them that there would not be any lifting involved, and that I would be on one-to-one care just to do medications for someone who was a little confused, which was fine by me, only to turn up at one place and be expected to do a 40 bedded nursing home for the night, with lots hands on care needed, and stairs to climb up and down all night. even though I was the nurse in charge and was employed to supervise the care assistants, who on my shift were very young and inexperianced at their job.
Even driving can seriously take it out of you after a C-section, I would say wait a while, maybe go camping over one of the bank holidays later in the season after you have had time to heal, and baby is more settled into a routine.
