I had one of those locks in your pic but the key snapped in it - luckily it wasn't in the trailer at the time. I use a wheel clamp and also a locking nuts on the wheels and spare. I used to use the key lock like your pic at service stations, now put the clamp on.
We have a big clamp we use but its not very substantial and wont stop someone if they really want it. Hitch locks to lock trailers to cars are fairly usless.
You can get a ground anchor that screws into the, erm, ground, then you roll the trailer over it and lock the axle to it with a huge motorbike chain. They are ideal for securing the trailer at the campsite.
The worry we have is when stopping at a motorway services, a lot of trailers and caravans are nicked there. Again maybe use your big motorbake chain to join the trailer to the car whilst you are there, Also some motorbike chains look good but are useless, theres a website somewhere that rates them.
We very reluctant to leave it unattended as they could just lift up our cover easily and take anything. and usually dont travel more that couple of hours, so no need to go into service stations. Take turns in going in?
On site, have small chain but you tend to trust fellow campers dont you?

it should bring up a hitch ball lock. it fits into the hitch itself and also locks the handel down via the u shaped clamp. hope this helps.
The coupling lock in your picture is fine, but only to prevent the honest folk from nicking your trailer, not to mention stopping you from detaching the trailer when the flimsy key, snaps of in the lock!.
I'm looking for a way of securing our trailer as well. I happened across this setup.
It's only a deterrent, but at least the dog tethers can't be unscrewed and a shovel would be needed.
------------- The guitar of the noisy teenager on the next pitch makes excellent kindling.

We had a tent and trailer until recently- on site we just put a hitch lock on it and trusted fellow campers. With a hitch lock they would have to physically move it by hand and I'd hope someone would see if that happened and for places like service areas we put a padlock through the hitch handle, so it couldn't be lowered to unhitch the trailer from the towbar. A small deterant, but it was enough to stop an opportunist that saw a trailer hooked to a car. We also made a hindged lid which we padlocked so everything was safe inside - the heavy duty cover was placed over the top for protection from the weather.
We have a heavy 2m 19mm link hardned steel chain, when parked up, that's threaded through the "A" frame of the trailer, and through a large eylet on the towbar. and then a SECA high security box padlock with 19mm shackle.
The chain and padlock was a cast of from my Son, when he had a moto-x bike, from about 5 years back, even then the padlock was £75 and the chain £50.
It's a failry ugly looking bit of security, but makes for a good visual deterent.
At the campsite, we chain the trailer to a large tree, it would be easiar to cut through the trailers "A" frame, than to tackle the chain, and maybe some thieves would take that route, at the end of the day if they realy wan't it, then it's going to be gone!
