Many, many thanks for all the replies, never expected to have so many this quickly :) I can understand the warnings about tent envy and the ever increasing list of things 'I must have' :) Spent most of tonight oohing and ahhing at other peoples set-up. Not sure if I have allocated myself enough in the budget, lol!
L Gillgan: Thanks for the info on decathlon, that must be the new camping shop the guys in work were telling me about but no-one could remember the name, lol. It's out near Ikea so not exactly in Belfast but close enough :) I was going to check out the two shops in J1 for the bits and bobs but wasn't sure if they did any tents. Will check them out at the weekend as I only live 2mins up the road. Good to see another N.I. person on here :)

Unfortunately the cheapest return ferry trip including car would add another £160 to the cost of any tent I could get off ebay so thats not an option.
I have found the Carolina M still on sale at Springfield Camping for £199.00 new but the free shipping only applies to UK Mainland addresses (as usual!). I've emailed them asking for a price to ship here so will see what that is hopefully tomorrow.
As a backup I've also been looking at the Vango Icarus 500 which I can probably get somewhere local but it just doesn't seem to be as open as the Carolina with its big windows.
I've also found two local Cotswold Outdoor shops, one in Belfast city centre and one just outside it and, of course, there's the Scout Shop so going to (hopefully) take this Friday off work to investigate :) Whats the betting my bank account will be considerably lighter by the weekend? lol

We have just moved back to scotland after 8 years in co Antrim that's where my oh from.
Go yo decathlon next to Ike at Hollywood exchange far cheaper.
Also check out b and m and homebargins I know there is ones in yorkgate and abbey centre for bits and pieces chairs stoves lamps etc.
Not much up at junction one I'm afraid for the campers.
Keep your eye on bits and pieces in lidil also.

I only live 5 mins from j1 in randalstown!! They usually have a tent display shop but havent seen it this year yet. B&M at j1 is great for bits n pieces :)
hi jax. and welcome to the site. i know you will soon discover that this not just a camping club. but is a huge mine of information that has nothing to do with camping. everyone has some sort of problem. and these lovely people always do their best to help. don't be afraid to ask. some are experts with tents. others are experts at the equipment you can buy. and some ( more so me ) love a whiskey. but i have yet to to try the pink stuff. but i may just make some in a few weeks when son has a bbq. anyways. hope you have a great time camping. may your tent never leak of be blown down.
