Well, to be honest, not until Monday - I'm nabbing a cheap deal at Premier Inn at Carlisle on Sunday night so I can pop into the Dolls House Emporium store at Houghton Hall Garden Centre just north of Carlisle. Then I'm off to Drumroamin site near Wigtown for a few nights. I bottled out of the windier, west-facing sites, although some of them looked good; I just want to relax without any challenges on this trip!Drumroamin's rather flatter and more bare than the usual type of site I like, but reviews are very good; 'nice owners, dark skies, midge-free, and free hot water' sold it to me! Looking forward to exploring the area. Will be home again before the Jubilee, but might take a couple of flags with me to stick by the tent, just for fun.
Can anyone recommend any special spots they like to visit in SW Galloway?

Lucky you. I have never been to that particular site but have looked at it a few times. When we camped in that area last summer, we had a great day out at Cream O Galloway - the ice cream centre. Great for kids to play and adults to try the yummy ice cream!!

DHE is another dangerous place for spending money, whether in shop or online, just don't do what I did at their Ripley shop (went to shut the front of Magpies which promptly fell on the floor and smashed, dead embarrasing). Hope you have a lovely stay

Drumroamin has to be one of our favourite sites for long week-ends, though last August we did spend a fantastic week there.
A butchers van and a fresh fish van visit the site mid week and both sell first class produce.
The owners Lesley and Ralph are very welcoming and are always on site to give advice on where to eat and visit.
I've been to Newton Stewart twice in the past 6 months, alas not camping, but still a wonderful part of the UK regardless.
If you've got kids, Cream of Galloway will go down a storm.
Raider's Road is a great car trip, and make sure to take a picnic for when you get to the Otter Pool (you'll be lucky to spot one though). It's a magnificent picnic spot though.
Galloway Forest Park is worth exploring if you're up for some walking.
Wigtown is brilliant, make sure to check out the shop simply named 'the bookshop'. It's epic.
Portpatrick is a quaint stopoff if you're going to make the trip to the Mull of Galloway which is pretty good too.
Lots of great ideas there - thanks, folks! I'm travelling alone, but that does not preclude enjoyment of ice cream, given the weather, krazykamper.
Book shops? Oh dearie me, ailurotoo... that and DHE? (Magpie wrecker, Diane? Argh! The shame...) My debit card's in serious trouble on this trip, it seems.
Like the idea of meat and fish vans visiting the site - how very civilized! Might treat myself to a bacon butty after all - don't usually bother with fresh meat/fish when camping. (I lived in Lanarkshire for a couple of years, near Auchengray, Skyemac.)
Am planning on visiting Portpatrick, Timiano, and Port Logan, so I can go all nostalgic over the old tv series 2000 acres of Sky, for which I had a soft spot. Seems like a long time ago now!
Now I just need some decent weather...

just because the books are preloved doesn't mean they're cheap. if you're alone you'll be able to browse the 70s naughty mags section without being told off for giggling!
try the mull of galloway, it is the most southerly point of scotland, you can see ireland, the isle of man and several bits of scotland and north wales ...well if it isnt cloudy.
Have a wonderful time,although i think i might of missed you now ...we got back last sunday after a 4 night break and had a lovely time and also found a wonderful site on the beach called Mossyard
