Hi to you all, just picket up on this topic,I Just lost my legs and unable to have any replacements,so my 2year old caravan had to go,as now wheelchair bound.and wife would not tow one,So the choice is stop my out door holidays or find away to continue.and after all we spent most of our time in the awning any ways.with caravan in storage. So we spent a lot of time looking and we decided that a sun-camp trailer tent had all of the needs that we required.and it takes the same time to erect as the awning.also 2 double beds off the ground and far more room.kitchen friendly,2 under bed pods the kids love them, plus 4mx4m living room, wardrobe hanging area,a good toilet area for me,and good access for my wheelchair,we just spent the week away in the storms and it felt 100% right. Its a big leap of faith, the wife was happy towing, and its parked feet from the front door,so no storage fees, just can not wait until this weekend then out we go again, a big smile.
------------- wheelchair bound, no legs, war torn, but walking tall with a smile as each day i wake is a day given to me for free,so i grab it with two hands.
I do both. Some weekends I go in the caravan and others we go in the tent.
Just now we have the caravan on a site for the season and use the tent for exploring different sites. Feel we get the best of both worlds
Well we had tents for years, then trailer tent, then caravan last year and i hated it. Putting the beds up every night, cramped inside ,felt too on top of each other. We did have an awning. Sold the van at easter and treated ourselves to a brand new tent and were away last week and loved it!!!. Even my hubby who was reluctant to sell the van admitted it was nic being able to get straight into bed. I did find an easier set up which has helped a lot,o and condensed my kit down too

So glad you have found a way to continue with your holidays. I would like a trailer tent next as although i have previously had a caravan due to a breakdown in relationship a few years ago i had to get rid of it & the extra costs of storage etc mean im not in a position to own one now.
Gone from tent to camper to tent to caravan and back to tent. Happy with tent set up. Very comfy. Once set up could stop in there indefinately. I love it. Couldn't be bothered keep getting caravan out of storage so had a seasonal pitch for two years. That became too expensive so back into cheaper storage then just decided she had to go. Get a decent tent and make it comfortable inside. Wouldn't go back to a caravan now.
------------- Smoke me a kipper ............ I'll be back for breakfast!!!!!
We went from a large caravan to an even larger tent and I love the extra space it gives us and I find the children are more likely to get outside and play more as there's not the lure if the TV. We used to argue about getting the bed s out as it was such a chore but now they're all ready made up to just collapse into at the end of the day.
Putting up a tent it's ten times easier than putting up our last caravans awning too.
Tent - caravan - tent - I'll swap you, my tent for your caravan!
I love camping, I love the space in the tent. I don't mind going to the loo in the rain.
BUT every holiday always has some drama....either we are rushing to get where we are going as it takes 2 hours to set up when we get there; or rushing to beat the rain. Halfway through the holiday we have to start watching the weather to see if we will have a calm dry day to decamp. We have to start packing up the night before we leave otherwise we would have to set our alarms to be packed up and off site at the allotted time. We are tired before we leave the site then often have a 6-7 hour journey home.
I'd love a caravan where I could just turn up, corner legs down and that's it. I wouldn't have a fixed bed but I would have 2 seating areas where I could leave the bed up if we were having a day out and pack it away if it were a rainy day and give us more space.
------------- Started with a motorbike and tent.......my gallery, my life.
we have had everything , found the caravan a lot of effort for the amount of time it was used . we now have a vw t4 which is also our everyday transport plus an awning with bedroom pods for two teenage girls.the t4 is ideal when its just the two of us .i think its all down to personal choice .
Yes. Caravan as a kid. Loved it till I got to about 15 then I began to hate it!
Spent several years trying to see the world and refusing to stay in a caravan at any cost - mum and dad should have quit while they were ahead and realised teenage girls don't do caravans!
Decided to give camping a go with my DH. LOVED it. Loved our little tent. Loved cooking outside. Just loved it.
Kids came along and with a baby and toddler yearned for carefree camping hols but couldn't face the basics of a tent with them being so small so got tempted by a caravan. Most expensive, stressful thing we ever did. We stuck it for 2 years. It the storage, ins, servicing, expensive car needed to tow, etc, made it all very stressful and we felt claustrophobic. Kids loved it! Anyway, when the tow car had probs and we couldn't afford replacing it we got rid of the caravan and breathed a sigh of relief. Did cottages for a couple of years till our boys were that bit older (4&6) and bought a fantastic tent, dug out our old kit and we are back to camping. Still LOVE it. No overheads every year like with a caravan. Twice as much room in our Vermont xl than a caravan. There is no comparison in my mind. Tent wins every time :0)
