Ratty  I have just looked at the advice you linked to and noted that it states " keep tents 6m apart" is this tent fabric or guy rope distances ? And why only two weeks ago where we told on a Camping and Caravan Club managed site , by the site manager, that 3 m fabric to fabric was the rule?

It seems strange that we read such diverse standards from all quarters of this industry.

6m apart! you might get that when a site is quiet but ive never ever been on a site that enforces that rule and that includes C&CC sites economics alone would kill a site that enforced that!

Can I jump in with a quick question?  I've seen mentioned fiire extinguishers...  We have always had a fire blanket, but now I'm thinking I'll get an extinguisher too before we go away next week. I'd always assumed a "load of water" would do the trick as our water container is adjacent to the stove area, but is an extinguisher better?  If so, I assume the red powder one is the one to have.

Thanks, Bob.

The manager should have known better! (See here)

The distance does exclude guy ropes - the relevant rule (or Club Policy) is "c. The six metre rule. Units excluding guy ropes must be 6m apart from adjacent units. This is a precaution against fire."

This is what worries me , Sixs suggests that when densities are highest rules are at their most relaxed for nothing other than commercial gain. I would ask perhaps for someone without vested interest to produce a rule that is enforced especially at peak times with high densities, to keep everyone safe if there is an accident. If we have a situation where those now primarily interested in profits have become the rule makers then we look to a rather dangerous future.
