Edge for us and preferably a corner. I prefer sheltered pitches and I like the security of camping against a hedge.
We tend to use CS's which have few tents and I really don't like having people camped next to us. I have to deal with people day in, day out for the rest of the year, I like a bit of solitude on my holidays.
I'm on the introvert side of the field!

Edge for me or tucked away corner.
1) For shelter but I normally check there are no tree's blocking the sun in the morning. (tent will dry out quicker early and late season)
2) Stops kids running round the tent and tripping over the guy ropes.
3) Less chance of being run over by a car. (as if pitched in the middle)
4) The hedge is handy for getting rid of washing up water.

We had to pitch in a corner at our last camp the midges were horrendous . we want to pitch in the middle but we would have been hated as the other campers around the edge had all ready estblished football etc in the middle
not to mention the fact that your tent gets covered in bird poo if you go near the trees!
yes I did think last time we went that we probably ruined everyones rounders game!

Another vote for the edge here too. Mainly due to the protection offered.
