I had used the bucket / cat food option for a year .... always felt a bit undignified (lol) to be honest!  Also never felt it was so secure from falling over.  Bought a Royal one (made by Thetford) this summer, it was a god-send when we had rain for 8 days solid -  i only had to empty it on the last day.  Yes it takes up space in the boot, but it really was a great bit of kit to have.  I think I'll only use it for long-ish trips, and just use campsite facilities for weekend trips.

where do you empty out if you use  cat litter?

we use  anormal bucket, first up in the  morning takes it to the loo to empty it and then it's disenfected .x

I don't use cat litter but I do empty it out into the chemical disposal point because they have the means of washing it out before going back to the tent for disinfectant.
