Hello ukcs, long time no speak!
Hope you all had good christmasses :)
Thought it was about time i poked my nose in here before i start planning for next year. We had baby number 3, Joseph, on the 13th September (at home in a pool in my lounge!) so next year will be camping with 1 under 1, and my 2 girls aged 3 and 7. Apart from the obvious baby bits, is there any equipment that is vital with a small person on board?? X
A good travel cot maybe, or does that come under the 'Baby bits' title?
EHU for the sterilizer if you have the mains type, and one of those portable high chair gadgets that fix onto an ordinary chair (or some types of camping chair) that allows little one to be fed at the table with the rest of the family.
We bought one of these a couple of years ago for our grandaughter to use when shes in the caravan with us, it fits onto one of our folding chairs and ours even has its own tray, its about the size of a biscuit tin when folded, and cost around £15 from Argos.

Right there Julia we have seen this gadget chair outside when eating at a restaurant & when we have stopped at cafe.
The little one was up with the rest of the family learning from all how to sit up to eat at a table. The little person looked terrific and laughed a lot also you have better access to those chops that need wiping so many times.
Saw both one which sits onto adult chair but also one that seemed to clamp onto table.
A large builders rubble bucket great for messy eaters and a bath and a play den folds flat when empty a grandchild was kept safe in one of these while awnings were erected toys in there with the child and when we had a summer day a shallow pool not in recent years but I have a long memory great fun and even used to carry the child down a path to the beach using a pole through the handles and an adult on the pole ends bucket swinging along between the two of us so for a young child a builders rubble bucket was the perfect child accessorie
Thank you, we have ehu but not got a heater yet, was thinking just a little low kw fan heater will do us. I have a littlelife travel cot (goes up with fibreglass poles like a tent lol) but fold very small and doubles as a play pen. Hadnt thought about a travel highchair seat, but a very good idea! Most will sit safely on the floor too so will get that on my list :)
Prob wont camp until May but know the nights can be bit chilly! xx
Only extra equipment I had for my little one as a baby was:
Travel cot ( bit of cardboard underneath for insulation)
Fleecy onsie ( before they became trendy lol )
Gro-bag
Milton cold water steriliser (used tommee tippee non bleach fluid instead of tablets, personal preference as it has no taint! )
We used our buggy instead of high chair for feeding as space was a big issue.
Also had no electric hook up and managed ok even when little one was 6 months old in beginning of September.
You'll have a fab time, camping with a little one is lovely, especially as you already have little helpers :0) x
Thank you. I started camping when my children were 5 and 14months so have the travel cot etc. My buggy got very messy from her eating in it though, but space is a big issue for us (we have big tentd but a small car!) Am also breastfeeding at the moment but i think if he's over 6months i will just boil his bits if i need to, chances are he'll be at that stage where everything is in his mouth. I use milton st home so already have that.
More worried he wont sleep through - i would hate to be woken by someone elses baby crying, dont want to disturb people.
How do i entertain him if hes crawling? I dont mind a bit of dirt but i wouldnt want him off out around the campsite. I dont have windbreaks, do you think we should get some and make a big playpen? Xx
Congratulations. And well done on a lovely home birth, I'm more than a bit jealous.
I wouldn't worry about him waking in the night and disturbing people, one of the many advantages of breastfeeding is that a nipple in the mouth = instant quiet baby! In any case by May he could well be sleeping through (it's a nice idea anyway!). In any case, most people don't mind a crying baby, it's preferable to a group of rowdy adults.
I think the giant playpen is a great idea. Can you borrow windbreaks, to save some pennies?
lol he's been sleeping through 11-7 since he was 9 weeks, and has been sleeping in til 8 over xmas - must sort that out before the school run returns!!
But just my luck he will start fussing and being a pain! i think you're right about rowdy adults too. nobody i can think of would have them, perhaps my grandparents might have some ancient stripey ones being chewed in the depths of their garages... i think you can pick them up quite cheaply though.
Oh and my homebirth was amazing, had an emergency caesaren with my first, an awful but quick hospital delivery with my 2nd and had it all my way with my 3rd and last baby would recommend it to everyone i know! xx
I had an 'emergency' section, IMO avoidable without unnecessary intervention first time round but a lovely delivery second time, albeit in hospital. Mainly 'cos I stayed at home until I was ready to push! I'd do it that way again if I got the chance!
Lol yes i stayed at home too long as well and had my 2nd daughter within an hour of arriving at hospital, hence the decision to have my 3rd at home. Hes just greedy and eats all evening from 8pm onwards haha
