dk168 good decision . We went to langdale got pitch up as it got dark just finishing off securing the pegs . Kids sorting sleeping bags OH brewing up . Then the langdale exspress ( wind ) came and bent the pole completely in half . No one hurt . So after a little brain storming . We just decided to. Pack up and come home gutted . But up for getting off again with our little mountain tents maybe Edale . And NT at langdale have transfered our booking to a date of our choosing in the newyear .

It is chucking down at present, with little hope of dry spells.
I can stand the cold, however, I do not like it cold, wet and windy.
The dog will thank me for cancelling the trip as he hates being in the rain.
Nevermind.
Roll on Easter!
That's a shame DK....You have been looking forward to that trip for months now....Still it says a lot for your character that you could cancel at the last minute having waited so long for the trip....

Was the tent a tipi, as you say the pole bent in half?
This is something I and others have warned about in quite a few posts, and some of us on here use a thicker pole, or brace the standard one if it gets windy. What are you doing about a replacement pole. Which brand of tent is it. There was a thread on here where an aluminium pole was sourced from an army surplus store, very cheap and much stronger.
Glad you were all OK, but it's a shame your trip was ruined.
As I have posted many times on here before, I was one of the first to swap to a bell tent a few years ago now, and as soon as I saw the pole, I knew it would bend, but I let myself be lulled into a false sence of security, that the manufacturers new what they were diong. Something I never do now when I buy a new tent. If I think it looks unsuitable, then I upgrade it.

I'd rather be kayaking.
Spent up, not pent up, just had my new tent up.
Its a soulpad tipi . And its stood up well in some really nasty weather that was untill the other night . Im going to make my own replacement pole and over engineneer it . The benafit of a simple design and a metal stockist in the family . If it hadnt been Newyears we may have got in a pod or cheep B&B and done a bodge repair the next day . All the places that could have helped tend to be close over christmas newyear . You live and learn . Plus we may go to Edale for Newyears So not all lost .
Ps we werent the only ones with damaged tents
Definitely made the right decision as the weather does not look like it will improve.
Both the pets are happy to be indoors.
I swear the dog gave me a "WTF" look when I was packing my bag for the trip yesterday, after he went out in the garden in the pouring rain and came right back after he cocked his leg.
It is a real shame, as I shan't go camping again until Easter 2013.
However, it means I shall have saved a day's annual leave and can extend one of my trips next year, so all is not lost.

Oh, shoot me now, fellow tenters, however, I did wish I had a little motorhome that I could just drive to the campsite yesterday.

My mum has a small Roma home and its like being at sea in high winds thats with the stablizers down . Bad weather is bad weather just affect are differant
I had hoped to get away but the wind has been mental and the rain hasn't stopped for days. So doesn't look like we'll get away over the holidays. Schools don't go back till the 7th but think the ground will be too muddy to go away at the weekend too.
We have been watching the weather ... Decided today to just go for it
So Bell tent pitched with near to 30 caravans.
Hope everyone at home or away has a great new year

As the weather for NYD is forecast as bright and sunny, I thought I might just do a quick one nighter if I could find a site that's not flooded. But I've now discovered that we are grand children sitting while DD goes out with friends.

We might go somewhere on Friday if the weathers better, forecast not so bad at the moment for these parts. Will let you know where we are going when we decide Raf.
