Can anyone tell me if the pins on an ehu are different to a transformer?
I am wanting to test our ehu which we got last year as an exchange because the first ehu didn't work the second time we came to use it.
When we came to test the ehu on a transformer the pin layout was different - would this be correct? I just don't want to get to spain and this one not work!
Any ideas on how we can make sure the ehu works?

By ehu do you mean a tent electric hookup, ie 20mtres of cable with blue/white plug on one end & a board with 3 rcd protected 3 pin domestic sockets on 'tother end, yes? If this is the case, then buy an adaptor as in link in 3rd post. Plug ehu socket into this & plug into mains at home, then plug your camping appliances, ie kettle, lights, tv, whatever into ehu sockets at other end & if they work ok, your ehu is ok.
Or do you mean just an ehu cable as used with caravan, ie 20odd mtres of cable with blue/white plug & socket on either end? if this is the case just unscrew plug & socket covers to expose connections & check if they ok & tight. Provided this is so, ehu cable will be ok.

Or do you mean you tried to plug your ehu into ehu point on French or Spanish campsite last year & the campsite socket was their domestic plug socket. not blue/white 3pin? When you go camping on the continent you need to take a continental ehu adaptor to use as required. This...
Buy one from any UK camping/caravanning shop. Your ehu plug goes in one end & plug is continental schuko plug ie domestic mains plug for continent.
It was a large transformer that you use for power tools. I'll buy an adaptor seen as they aren't that expensive and try it that way. Not sure if I'll be camping before June now otherwise I could have tried it on a campsite.
Will I need a continental ehu adaptor in Spain? We were fine in France and didn't need one.

If you mean a building site type transformer, step down 240v to 110v, these use yellow/white plug/socket with different pin positions which is why your ehu plug did not fit & the output would be 110v so no good for testing your 240v ehu anyway. Just buy the adaptor as in link & plug straight into mains.
Some campsites mainly in France do need the continental adaptor, its always a good idea to have one with you if you camp abroad.
ah, I take it you simply wanted to make sure it worked by plugging it into a 110v builder's type transformer? As others have said both the pin layout is different and the equipment you would plug into the end of your EHU is not designed for use with 110v.
Best to buy one of the adaptors suggested above (or if you have a nearby site go and ask to plug in for a minute to check it)
