I was editing my profile as I no longer have the campervan, and for the life of me I can't remember what make of tents I have.  One is a 4 berth I got from Argos many years ago and has been reliable with no leaks.  The other is a wee blue 2 man tent I got for £15 from Homebase a few years ago.  I got it because it was small enough to use instead of the bigger tent and also it is ideal to take on the motorbike.  I thought that at £15 if the tent leaked and was not suitable then it could go on the fire.

However, the first weekend I used it was on a fishing trip to Ford in Loch Awe, Scotland with some of the gang from work.  If the tent leaked, at least I had a mate's tent I could share.  During the first night it rained non stop with some blustery storms and guess what?  The wee blue tent stood up to everything that was thrown at it weather wise.  The funny thing was that in the morning I was bone dry while some of the more expensive tents had been waterlogged.

The flysheet on wee blue tent gets steeped in Nikwax every so often and has now become my tent of choice.

I know what you mean - I have a Riverdome tent from Argos that we use for camping in the garden and it has kept us dry though some torrential rain.

We had a regatta 4 man dome tent from Argos and it was a brilliant little tent, never leaked, we sold it on for the same as we paid for it a number of years on! Wished we'd kept it now

So many times it's 'luck of the draw' I took a punt on a sample tent last year which was just the size, weight and conformation I needed for me and my bike and couldn't find in all the big manufacturer's lists.
Not tested in the rain as yet but your comment about soaking in Nikwax is giving me ideas for if the flysheet isn't up to british weather

Still trying to get the packing right.
