'your' lead should have both a RCD and a MCB to be an 'approved' EHU lead... approved by c & c and cc & c , some sites will not let you plug in if you do not have this lead...
So if i have a "proper" EHU in my trailer tent, i can then add a household extension to it to give me extra sockets? Just slightley confused by the technical terms thats all.
Thanks amy

Yes, but it is advisable to keep it off the ground and dry.

Thanks, i was sick of swapping & changing phone chargers, ipad chargers, kettle, toaster ect...
Dont need to now just use it wisely and not overload it.
I got my ehu from GO. On Sale at £35 right now and worth 20% off too. It takes 3 plugs at a time which is usually plenty!

Also, some sites want to check your ehu to make sure it's safe, another reason not to waste cash on a cheap home made one.

Got my regular email from Go Outdoors today, and they have an EHU on discount - 56% off makes it £34.99 with the discount card. I'm no electrician, but it does include mcb and rdc - looks like the right bit of kit.
------------- Good times and great adventures await...
I was having trouble with my hook up as it kept tripping for no apparent reason, it was a Towsure one that came with my trailer tent 2nd hand. Though second hand it was still boxed and definitely unused.
I opened the unit it up by removing the six screws on the plastic box and to my horror, THREE of the screws had gone straight through the wiring inside, two of them through neutral wires and one through a live wire. Not only that, the gland that the cable goes through did not have a locking nut on the inside of the box so the cable wasn't secured properly. It was basically carelessly put together, the cables had been trapped between the joint of the box then the screws had gone through them. One if those screws were live!!
I'm pretty sure that this is a one off, but I was pretty shocked to say the least.....
I have taken your advice saxo1 ,
as it was on my mind of the safety of the lead i already had,i have changed my mind And i have bought a Triple Mobile Mains Electrical Socket Camping Kit Pack Set with the rcd and trip switch built in .

I used the new EHU this weekend, very pleased a bit bulky but I felt very safe as I tripped it a couple of times .. Thanks everyone for your advice, I thought at the time I was right when clearly I was wrong ... :-)
Saw one onsite that was a eBay cheap job!
Just a very long 4way with the standard 3 pin plug, and used one of those blue plugs into the power point, and a socket on the other end to plug the extension into with a plastic bag to keep dry.
The site weren't too bothered when it was pointed out to them!
