hi, sorry for the rather strange title but i didnt want to make it too vague, my question is ive seen some posts suggesting using a bucket as an emergency toilet in the night and using cat litter to absorb the waste, what do you do with it the next day, is it ok to put it with the chemical toilet waste points on sites?
First off, I'd recommend the wood based cat litter.... slight whiff of freshly sawn wood, certainly not unpleasant! Use inside a bin liner, inside the bucket (rather than directly in the bucket). That way, the bag gets lifted out for disposal, and the bucket stays "clean" and dry, for the duration. No need for any chemicals/disinfectants etc. We give it a soak/scrub when we get home, (after we've used it to carry the muddy tent pegs home! ), but never whilst away!

You shouldn't be putting it down the grey waste, needs going in CDP.
Never bothered before but one of the sites we are visiting I'm told it's a bit of a trek to the toilet block, don't fancy that for my early hours of the morning run!!
Will be investing in some cat litter too.

I'm sorry I think the cat litter method is unhygienic for the bin men who collect the rubbish
so are baby nappies (especially recently vaccinated), doggy poo bags & womens sanitary products so what do you suggest we do with these? I also put the odd broken pieces of glass or crockery in my regular bin bag.

with dirty nappies I shake the pooy bits down the loo, did when my 2 were in terry nappies and do with the little ones nappies at work. But watch out for the wipes as they block the loo.
I do exact same as mucker1884. Absorbs totally in bag then put in bin, unless anyone is going to be raking through my binbag with bare hands not unhygienic at all.

What about cat litter that has actually been used by a cat? That goes in the bin and is worse than a bit of wee!
Found that Tescos value cat litter wasn't particularly absorbent (you had to put in a lot of litter) and by the morning there was a strong wee smell in this hot weather.
Will definitely be looking for the woodchip type for the next camp.
For our Kampa Khazi the swing bin liners I had were 43cm across the opening and you really have to stretch it to fit over the handle so I'm looking for some slightly bigger that aren't too deep.
Anyone else got a favourite brand that fits perfectly??
Salome, do you know, I trawled the whole t'internet with exactly that same query. Lots of posts about bags, and double bags, BUT NO-ONE SAID WHAT SIZE. Arrrggghhhh.
Still don't know. But got these, designed for their folding loo:
They are more than big enough, and on our KK, fold down into the frame. Being Mr Bin expert in our house, I'd prefer a standard Brabantia pack, but I suspect the bowl rim diameter and bowl depth wouldn't work with their bin liners.
If you find out something that fits perfectly, let us know

My advice is worth no more than the price paid for it
Our bags are slightly oversized, so hang over the rim a fair amount. We put the seat/lid on, then I tuck it all into the rim of the seat, just for appearance sake!!
However, we do get the bags by the gross, for free, so can't complain!! Thanks sis!
I use ordinary bin bags big enough to cover the bowl of my Kampa Khazi, and put enough supermarket value cat litter to cover the base.
Once finished, I would put the bag in the general waste bin, no different to dog poo that also go into general waste bin.
