greenscooby could you use headphones with a multiple 5 way splitter headphone jack..? We do this if we watch a movie or something on the laptop.
That is a cracking idea, never would have thought of that in a million years, but the question still remains, would you mind me asking you to tell me if the TV was too loud?
Not at all Scooby, I personally would never take a TV camping as it's one of the reason I go........ to get away from that stuff. But you're consideration of your neighbours would be welcome as far as I'm concerned.
As for the OP, to my mind if the site is a "busy" site and the general vibe is noisy, then you're going to have to put up with it. BUT, if the noise is only from one tent, then they need to moderate.
I am pretty sure no one will ever be annoyed or disturbed by me being quiet. Don't see why loud mouthed, insensitive people should not be told to pipe down a bit.
I probably wouldn’t hear you as I’ve got my headphones on watching a movie…In all honesty this is a very polite and courteous thing to do. What happens if you come across a grumpy camper who says no, I just want peace and quite and no tv…?
Totally agree Tidburyboy, I'm not over keen on too much noise that's why we try to keep to the non commercial sites, especially because of our dog, she does not like any other animal ( when we walk her she is on a very short lead and muzzled), I was just trying to think of a polite way to say to my neighbours if I am making too much noise then please don't be afraid to tell me, as I will NOT be offended.
Scooby sorry to butt in but isn't that the point - "consideration for others" whatever side of the discussion you take.
You obviously are considerate and want to make sure that you don't ruin anyone else's holiday. Some people aren't & don't give a stuff as long they have a good time.
Equally as has already been said on a busy bustling site there will be some noise & it should be expected to be a bit noisy, so people shouldn't complain if its a little loud at times.

Again, I could not agree more, but, as you say one families holiday is not everyone's cup of tea, how do you politely sort that out without causing offence, even if it's only £5 for the headphones I cannot afford them at this particular moment in time I'd rather ask my neighbours to tell me, and if they still complain I'll try and bribe them with a beer!!! LOl, I like to think I'm polite enough to get on with and a good neighbour to drink with.
As you say though, the REALLY NOISY neighbours, I'd go and join them, but that's just me Lol.
I honestly don't think I'd complain, each to their own, we are all there for the same reason, HOLIDAY, time for a break from the norm, do what you want when you want within reason.
I think talking is fine at whatever time, so long as its not rowdy. Use earplugs. That should muffle 'talking' from a nearby tent. If it doesn't then the talking is too loud.
I actually find the noise of tents and sleeping bags zipping up and down to be more annoying, hence the earplugs.
Sleep and camping are not easy bedfellows. Temperature, lighting, quality of bed, sleeping bag, birdsong.......all things we don't normally experience, hence you need to accept that shorter sleeps are the norm. Afternoon naps become more common........
Music, shouting, TVs etc after curfew is unacceptable. Talking, snoring, crying babies, zips being pulled etc are annoyances that have to be lived with

JUNE 2017 - Sango Sands, Durness, Scotland
AUGUST 2017 - Balloch O Dee, Galloway and Invergarry
SEPTEMBER 2017 - three brief trips
OCTOBER 2017 - hopefully one final trip before Halloween
Christine sometimes you have to let people enjoy their holiday and a little noise is expected. But you'll get more co-operation from people by being neighbourly with a bit of give and take then going in guns blazing and shouting about the noise.
Flexibility....There's a word....and a concept for all campers quiet or noisy to consider...
The ability to bend a little from the "Norm" or accepted pattern of behavour that we follow at home quiet or loud would go a long way to creating a harmonious atmosphere on any campsite...
Just as it is unacceptable to be too loud and noisy late on into the night....It's also unacceptable to expect everyone to go creeping about on tippy toes because WE live a quiet and sedate life and wish to continue doing so while on site...
Both parties need to develop a "Considering" attitude towards their neighbors while on site....Some times that happens....Sometimes it dosn't...In which case we have to adjust slightly...
One of my bugbears on site(and I have many) is the early morning car door slammers....Why oh why can't folk gather all they need from the car/campervan on one trip...instead of the constant too ing and fro ing that goes on is beyond me...If I was to complain at that time of the morning it would only add to the overall noise...So I "Flex" a wee bit.....

Well back home now.
Update on the story.
I had headphones(in ear type) and could still hear the card game. Ask the next morning if they could be quieter. The owner then asked them to move. That night at the other end of the site the upset the other family who left the next morning. That night they could still be heard from our pitch so they was still loud even after 2 complaints to the owner.
So I think that they lacked respect others on the site and feel sorry for anyone pitched next to them in future
some people have louder voices than others . i.e windsor davis , some generally dont realise they are so load , but then you get the people who turn up in groups just for the p###s up , and there the ones that normally make all the racket , the ones that upset people , we have to remember were all there on holiday and everyone is trying to enjoy them selfs , i dont think normal people are there to upset and make sure other peoples holidays are ruined , and as mentioned there is no noise insulation and that is what people forget , especially newer campers , it is up to campsites to make sure people adhere to reasonable noise levels , and they police that ,
sorry for the long windedness lol

Jelboy.
Perhaps they've changed their minds about what to do, so need different stuff, perhaps the weather has changed so they need a coat, perhaps their partner has left something they need in the car rather then in the correct place, perhaps they need tools to fix something, perhaps they're putting their phone on charge in the car, perhaps they're loading the car for a trip out (that takes at least 5 doors for us - tailgate, both rear doors when we put the dogs in their cages, then both the front doors)... a million and one things really. It happens to me a lot.
Mind you, I'm not a door slammer so maybe I don't make too much noise. And we rarely get away before 10, so only disturb the really late risers.
