I booked Scotland this week but don't know what to do because of the weather .dont mind putting tent up in the rain or sleeping in the tent when raining it's the thought of putting it away and drying it out when getting home ,😁
We had to decamp in pouring rain on Friday morning. It was horrible, but we got it all packed up eventually.
I've kept a great big plastic bag from when we bought a single mattress years ago, and the tent goes into that, rolled up. The only problem is of course in that wet, unpacked state, it takes up half the car, so it was really frustrating and difficult getting everything in.
The sun was shining when we got home, so laid the footprint and tent out on the patio to dry, but a sudden downpour rendered everything soggy again!
After a night over the banisters, it's all drying out nicely now. Hoping tomorrow we'll be able to pack it away properly.
It was all worth it. We had a fantastic three-day break!
Thanks all, great advice, the heavy rain eventually passed at around 6am andgave way to sun! So we hastily packed everything away inside once it was a sensible time to mske noise and eventually started to drop the tent around 9am, still the outer was wet but it was not raining so will put up in the garden later at home. Funny though, I was just tightening the bike straps as the last thing I do and the heavens opened! Just in time!

It is a good idea to take an old towel with you and then when you get up on the morning of going home day go round the tent shaking it and drying off as much of the night's dew/rain as you can. If you can get rid of the heavy droplets early, then the wind/sun will have a better chance of drying off the flysheet before you take it down later.
I have a large flexible bucket.. called a trug if i remember rightly.It is loaded with gear when setting off so doesnt use much extra space..its quite hard to damage it..its handy around the site for the dirty dish run or as a beer-can/bottle recycling collection point..and should you encounter a spot of rain on your last day---comes in very handy to cram the wet tent into holding the water until you get home to dry out.Readily available and very cheap.Just look for "flexible bucket". ps its amazing what entertainment little kiddies can find with one of these
Probably tempting fate now, but in 20+ years of camping I can only remember bringing home a wet tent twice. We've always been really lucky and got them down just before the heavens have opened. 3 camps left this year, fingers crossed
