So I'm posting from my cosy pod nearly at the end of a very "Northern" (weather) week in Rivington, Chorley and I have to give a shout out to my favourite piece of kit, my £9.99 Argos fan heater. She has been a god send, I read lots of posts on here regarding condensation and helping beat the cold nights and just leaving it on overnight on low has done the job, there's 5 of us in here and alot of the time we've been stuck in the tent due to the foul weather this week but not a single drop of condensation compared to our last trip and been just cosy enough at night too. So yay!!
PS. Also after setting up outwell 8 man beasty Hartford XL pretty much alone as the husband had to go back home to pick up the rest of the kit (saving up for a trailer/towbar) she was most helpful cooling down the sweaty mess I got myself into ahem...so double yay :)
Do we get much of a problem with condensation this time of year? Must say, the last 3 trips we've had (1 x June, 2 x July) we've seen no evidence of it.
Admittedly, there's only two of sleeping in a polycotton bedroom inside a polycotton tent, but even the table surfaces etc, be it inside the tent, or even outside under a tarp, have been nice and dry first thing in the morning, despite the grass being wet through. No damp matches, despite being left by the cooker outside. Same goes for the inside of the loo bucket lid (not so in colder climes!) and any clothes lobbed over a chair overnight, in the living area. All nice and dry in the morning.
Don't take this as a dig, mrsf-red, I'm delighted all went well for you, of course... and although we didn't use a fan heater on these last 3 trips, I agree they are a God-send, and use them regularly at other times of the year.
Was more thinking out loud, and wondering what others have experienced in the way of condensation through "an average UK summer"?

Well I could have told you that years ago I've always used a fan heater on low when necessary and never ever had condensation in any tent I've camped in.
I don't know how long you've been at Rivington mrsf-red but the weather's not been that bad - a bit of rain on Thursday which had cleared up by 11am so it was only yesterday and this morning that it's done anything much, and I'm less than three miles from Rivington, just over the other side of Winter Hill

Condensation or not it can get blooming chilly in the early hours even in summer and a fan heater ticking over on thermostat keeps the inside temperatures even and the air circulating, hence wake with a clear head and less chance of dampness or condensation.

The rain hasn't been anywhere near as bad as predicted but we had to pitch in the middle of a field, very exposed and the wind has been wicked last night and today, just packed away now waiting to go home. Had lots of fun regardless, we are northerners after all so this is normal!!
It also depends where you are camping.
If you are in a Scottish glen/valley even in summer you would still generally get some condensation in my experience if no heating used.
May also apply to valley camping in England I would think.

I wish I was as "posh" as you to have polycotton hahaha ;)
We have experienced a fair amount of condensation, maybe we're all heavy breathers in our family ;)

Shame you're ready for leaving, I could have popped over to say hello
You're welcome to come and laugh at me and my sons, we're huddled at the shower/kitchen hut at Home farm near the reservoir waiting for the OH to plough through the traffic to pick us up :) I must warn we are a sorry soggy mess haha
Oh yes, almost home and very much ready for a cup of tea and some dry clothes :) will be posting trip report later, and looking forward to maybe coming back at the end of the month
Let me know if you do, if I'm not away myself I'll definitely pop over and say hello - I can take the dogs for a walk round the res, I've not been that way with them for a while.

i think there must have been some condensation in our tent this last few days. I had my hair styled last week (for the first time in forty years!) and it was all sleek and Jennifer Aniston... When we got back from camp on Friday it looked like an explosion in a mattress factory!
Has anyone used those giant silica gel bags in their tent? We use a 1kg bag in the car and it stops any condensation in its tracks. Last winter our civic went from being a dripping mess in the morning to bring dry as a bone. Haven't had a chance to try it out in a tent yet but wondering if it will have the same effect?
