I've finally managed to convince my OH to buy another tent. We recently sold our caravan and had our first family holiday abroad.
Mallorca was wonderful ( i've been many times, but 1st as a family ) so it looks like a yearly event for us now.
I must admit that we enjoyed the caravan, once onsite. Didn't enjoy towing it though and ended up using for 2 weekends in 2 years simply due to towing.
So we've now decided on another tent. 2 to be exact. Eldest daughter is 14 and wants her own space.
We had the icarus 500 with porch and every gadget, device known to man. This time I want simplicity and space. Looking at the vango ark for the eldest and the voyager 6 for us and youngest daughter.
sorry for the big speech.
just wanted to say " Hi " I'm back. And getting everyone's views, ideas on the above tents.
cheers.

I too sold my caravan earlier this year because i was fed up with towing it, the speed restrictions and i just used to get a bit nervous each time i used it although once hitched up and on my way it didn't worry me as much as the thinking about it.
I bought my cabanon guadeloupe at the end of last year and have used it for 4 holidays this year so far, Bala (wales), West Sussex, Cornwall and Hertfordshire and have another booked for south Devon in september. So i've probably used it more than i would have the caravan, thoroughly enjoyed camping again and have no desire to go back to carvanning. Hope you enjoy your return to camping aswell. Good Luck whichever tent you choose to get.
Thankyou mowwd.
We live in the Scottish highlands and see some horrific sights. Caravans going too fast, not stopping at passing places, even seen people overtake on blind bends when towing. As most roads up here are single track it was taking 3 hours to get to our favourite site 60 miles away. Its just not worth the hassle anymore.
looking forward to tent shopping in a couple of weeks. I just hope GO decide to have a sale then.

Quite interesting to read about folk going back to camping having had a caravan.
For us we go Tent camping each year over in the South of France, but the time will come when we will switch to a caravan,.
But the plan is to tow the caravan down to a campsite in the South of France, and then leave it there forever.
For us this is still a bit of a pipe dream, but will mean future holidays down in the South of France will be made much easier, just a case of taking the car, so no Trailer to tow, and a lot less setting up to do when we get to the main campsite.
Caravan storage cost's will be £240 per year, and pitch fees with electric whilst we are there will be £10 per night during April/May/June and £24 per night July/August.
It is not a plan that would suite everyone, but for us it will be the ideal solution, as friends and family will also get to use the van, and this should further reduce the storage cost to almost zero.
Same here we went back to tent after trying the caravan again far to much hassle and oh didn't like towing we were paying more than £240 to store our van in a yard on industrial estate I do think that Francis plan sounds perfect !!!
Wow. I'm amazed. Just had a serious conversation with my better half and I'm totally speechless. Hence the text.
Firstly it was her decision to get a caravan due to the fact that our 4yr old daughter is diabetic and the cold affected her diabetes.
Fair comment.
However, and this is the cruncher.
We had a classic 30 yr old caravan that I had restored. Perfectly serviceable and warm.
BUT. Because it was so old. Nobody would give us the time of day.
She misses the friendliness of camping and making new friends, looking at peoples tents and comparing things.
Think its time for a glass of wine and plan the trip to GO before she changes her mind.
