They've always been like that.

We're not blessed with independents, so like them for the pop-in convenience for little stuff.

For big-ticket items, you play them at their own game. You wait for a sale discount, or use price match.

Getting a £1000 tent for £630 was worth more than a few fivers on the card for us.

Nothing is ever sold at the recommended retail price so if you think you are getting a bargain because you bought something for less than the RRP, you are not.

If a company can sell you something 'cheap' and still make a profit then it is worth less than what you paid for it.

A bargain still costs money.

If the item is a fiver, I don't care if it's £4.99 20 miles away.

If it's a grand, I research the market first, however the price tag is described.

Anyone handing over money on a big ticket item without doing so shouldn't be allowed out.
